Confirmed by Lee Johnson in his interview with Radio Sheffield - 8'40 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p035wxv1
sorry folks but I have been saying this all along: Benj has to go with Leejay.......utterly clueless and if rumour is correct...they are mates n all which would explain a lot regarding cronyism. he asked for time when he came did Benji boy...he's had it and achieved fekkety fek. Please leave and tek thi mate wi thi. whole place is a laughing stock
Did we not already know this, at least partly? Sure I remember reading something on here about him, lee and cryne's lad all identifying the players required.
Does anyone know what happened with Liam Kelly at Oldham? It seemed like we were definitely going to get him at one point, I'm sure I remember Whitey saying LJ had been talking about when, not if, we signed him (apologies if this is wrong Whitey). Overruled by Mansford?
Yes. Without doubt. It won't be any old Ben Mansford in that meeting with Patrick Cryne, it will be HEAD OF RECRUITMENT Ben Mansford who will be there. I always feel the need to give the job title of one of my colleagues to someone I talk with every week who knows the man in question very well. No one else bothered to tell us though did they, or give us a full and frank explanation of why we now have a head coach and not a manager. We know now and maybe some of the blame will start to shift. Someone on here the other day claimed that Lee Johnson wasn't so smart. Hmmm. Although this tactic could just as easily see him getting the boot. But I don't think a lot of people will stand for it now they've heard that.
For me this is one of the fundamental flaws we have and why we are perenially struggling. If you look from manager to manager we've had in recent years, its not uncommon to see players that we were close to being signed by one manager, then being signed by the next. I recall the Cryne interview stating his son didnt produce the target players, and in that same interview saying DW was aware of who was being signed, or something similar (forgive the paraphrasing). I recall several interviews DW gave intimating things were going on with recruiting behind the scenes he may not be completely party to. But essentially saying the manager doesnt do the targetting or rarely does. For me, a manager has to be central to recruitment. Yes, the suits sort the contracts, but if a manager has nominal say in who is signed.... how is he supposed to shame them into a squad. We seem more concerned about future transfer values (ironic when we actually pay clubs to take those players off us after the next manager takes over) than gelling a squad. I said at the start of the season that I'd take 19th based on our shocking summer transfer window where we got rid of so many able players and replaced them with very young unproven kids.... blocking our own produced unproven young kids off in the process. We might not be playing great at the minute, but I actually don't blame Johnson for that. yes, he's made mistakes... but how is he supposed to make a team play football when it doesnt have the constituent parts to do what he wants? Having said that.... we're still a shadow of the side DW had part assembled when it showed attacking intent. I wonder with Mawson and Roberts what that side might have done? The problem we have is our dysfunctional transfer approach.... I'll never be convinced an ex football agent so be in charge of recruitment.
We was told in the summer that Lj Identified his targets and Ben and Patrick got the deals over the line.Theres nothing new in that interview stating otherwise.
Who is this mystery man? And if we have, why is Lee Johnson referring to Ben Mansford as the head of recruitment, which is exactly what he's just done in that interview. Ben Mansford + job title, myself + job title, to make the point. Unless there's five of them in there, Patrick Cryne, Ben Mansford, a nameless head of recruitment, Lee Johnson and a nameless head coach.
