Stood on the Brewery Stand on a cold wet and windy Tuesday evening, John Peachey dancing to it Rock Me Gently by Andy Kim... anybody remember it ?? What tunes remind you all of Oakwell ??
Don't Cry For Me Argentina by Julie Covington......that was the only damn song they seemed to have. It evokes memories of a wet, near-empty ground, night match under floodlights, smells of Albert Hirst's pork pies from the kiosk at the back of the West Stand, chants of "Iley Out" and sheer depression, and being able to walk from the back of the Ponte all the way round to a crash-barrier halfway up the stack on the Spion Kop!!!!! I must be getting old, and have started to think of Graham Pugh's tache for some strange reason...........and Kenny Brown's.
Kenny Brown- theres a blast from the past, skinniest legs I have ever seen, used to work at Barnsley College after he stopped playing. Always a trier was Kenny Brownff
I remember Rochdale doing a warm up to "The day we went to Bangor" at Oakwell. They then went on to beat us 3-0 and the telly cameras were there. Also always fondly remember the bloke on the tannoy introducing "braaaaaaaataaaas" by Art Garfunkle.
What about that Bloody Organ Music That Keith Barret or was it Borret used to play. Like having your teeth drilled with a Kango SDS.
Can't imagine old Keith Shouting over the tannoy system "Spion Kop , Paddock , Ponty End , give it up for the SSuuuuuuper Reeeedddss !!!"
I once remember the Reds playing Chesterfield in the league cup in the late 70's.Just before the end of the first half, whilst the match was still in progress," Your the one that I want" by John Travolta & Olivia Newton John blasted out over Oakwell, Funny as ****.
