Just watching this on sky' very interesting' he just said that when he joined Leeds it was to get away from Barnsley and he would have signed for anyone' what a sh××t show the owners of our club must have been.
I think it was a case of he wanted out and had for a while, we were dropping like a stone football was **** hadn't won for months, and new owners wanted to appoint someone new shame they chose the wrong man though.
He said before on an interview that he decided to leave us and made the decision he would take the next job offered to get out.
Having a possible promotion winning squad ruined by the January transfer window didn't help him/us. But its no excuse for how bad he let things get, by simply not caring anymore. He's lucky he wasn't sacked long before the Leeds move.
Link? I don't think what you've written there will surprise anyone, but it'd be interesting to hear it directly?
He left 3 days after signing a new contract, saying it was never in doubt and that he couldn’t wait to work with the new owners. I realise loads will totally disagree, but for me the way he left us was worse than any other manager in my memory. Wilson, Ismael and Duff included.
Or, as Jay suggests above, he signed a new contract to enable the club to get more compensation. Which paints him in a somewhat different light.
Great Coach. Provided some of the best memories I’ve had in 50 years. Absolutely right in getting out and beyond the incompetent malevolent idiots we call Owners. He was simply the first of many who recognised what a farce they were turning us into. He won’t be the last.
This in spades. Had the rug, the carpet, the underlay, floorboards, concrete and brickwork pulled from underneath him.
Don't know how to do links and stuff but it was on sky sports last night at 9pm' it was called " Big interview: Paul heckingbottom"...
TBH, the whole thing just befuzzles me. He claims he was desperate to get out as a result of way treated etc and yet was happy to sign a contract so the club could get money just makes no sense. Not saying it didn’t happen just seems odd.
It was a bad time that January owner terminally ill, players forcing their way out knowing they could 4x their salary. People on here can say he had the rug pulled as much as they want but the only players sold in January were ones with 6 months left on their deal so would have gone for nothing in the summer. Winnall made it clear he wouldn't be playing for the club again. Then in the summer he spent the most a barnsley manager ever has and made some awful decisions. If he hadn't achieved promotion before, been a ex player and fan supporters would have been wanting him gone but some would have happily sang he's one of our own while he took us down the leagues and blamed everyone else.
So the let’s all hit on a local guy who has done well brigade are out on force. We know the owners at the time we’re terrible. We know anyone half decent was sold
No, it was announced 3 days before. It was signed some weeks before but it didn't get announced due to Patrick’s passing and it had been a long drawn out contract discussion
Do you know if he signed before he decided to leave or after? Only asking cos if it was before that makes more sense than after and answers my other post.
I believe he signed well before the Leeds interest. It maybe mentioned in the live from Redfearn’s Bar interview linked in the sticky that we did with him over lockdown.
If he would leave for anyone why did he sign a new contract three days before. He's contradicting himself unless by some miracle it went from being amazing to rubbish in half a week.
