Of a gaffer appointed from within the club and then winning promotion, in the past fifty years.
1968-Johnny Steele;
1981-Norman Hunter;
1997-Danny Wilson;
2006-Andy Ritchie;
2016-Paul Heckingbottom.
Only Allan Clarke, when first appointed as player/manager in 1978, has been set on from outside the club and then won promotion.
Also, a lot (but not all) of our seasons which had a major impact on the club coincides with a World Cup or European Championship.
1968-promotion (European Championship);
1972-relegation (European Championship);
1998-relegation (World Cup);
2000-first ever Wembley visit (European Championship);
2002-relegation (World Cup);
2006-promotion (World Cup);
2008-first ever Wembley FA Cup Semi Final (European Championship);
2014-relegation (World Cup);
2016-JPT Winners and promotion (European Championship).
