You can't just be pretty footballers who don't want to tackle and head the ball.

Interesting to know which ones...can easily guess.

Moncur and Mowatt are not central midfielders. They weren't when we signed than and aren't now.

Arguably, the intention was to do what was done with Conor.

Conor had played over a 100 games albeit at a lower level as a central midfielder. It's a bit disingenuous of Hecky to think that two dilettante Number 10s are suddenly gonna start playing like Roy Keane.

I never understood the decision to sign mowatt moncur mcgeehan and mallan who are all number 10 strange. Like you say can't expect to coach them into roy Keane

Agreed. If Hecky was giving the OK to those then I have to ask wtf he was doing/thinking.

Edit: even Moncur at the time made little sense given the way were set up. Maybe the intention was to get him playing like Conor. Maybe he still can, but it doesn't explain the signing of Mowett, McGeehan and Mallan.

Edit: only makes sense if he's switching to 3 in centre midfield, which didn't appear to be the case today.

Maybe Hecky didn't want to sign all those players he said in the interview that people weren't and haven't been listening to him re sales and recruitment

Maybe they were the only players he had permission to sign so he took anything he could?

I can only see the point if we start playing 3 I'm the middle.

Doesn't part of the plan indicate that our style/system is 442?

Well I guess so, but none of those on the face of it are the Scowen/Morsy type of player, so there's 4 of them for one spot if it's 442.

Reminds me a bit of when we signed Hourihane, Bailey and Berry. Took signing 3 players to get one good one.

No disrespect to Bailey or Berry but it just didn't work out for them at Oakwell.

Does that 'no.10' thing mean they are all Neil Redfearn type midfielders ?
Yes we'd love to see those sort of players at the club of course, but I agree that too many all at the same time wont work.
And if we have signed all of those who are basically the same, then WTF ?

Can't see it surley he would have just walked and gone Sunderland if that was the case. Moncur seemed like a decent signing at the time good goals and assists in league one in a poor team and possible replacement for when conor left if can be moulded into cm or play along side a tough tackler. Mowatt was strange leeds player of season a few years back been told he likes a drink but another number 10. Then we sign mallan played in a **** team highly rated but again most of his career no 10 then same with mcgeehan who is a quality.player from what I've seen but 4 players who have mostly played the 10 role and who none will want to sit on the bench just seems crazy especially when we are so short in other areas.

No, Neil Redfearn was useful at both ends of the field.

Yep. We can probably bring several players in from lower league or Scotland for less than it would cost for a proven player.

Same with Jennings. Ideal move for him and us but didn't work out.

Hence perhaps we shoudl not get hung up on signing 4 players who seem to be number 10's. We are trying to convert at least one to a useful number 8

Probably the reasoning behind Nudger wanting a team full of wingers

Let's face it, Mowatt was signed to keep us happy after the sale of Hourihane, it didn't work out last season for a couple of reasons, he was severely lacking match fitness, and nobody, not even Mowatt, knows his favoured position. Too lightweight to be a central midfielder, not quick and agile enough to be a winger, and too lightweight to sit behind the striker, as shown last season.
Hopefully he's got himself in much better shape for the season ahead, and he works out his favoured position that can get the best out of him, whatever that is.
