Shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia. Yes, I know he had the rug pulled from under him with Conor H etc ..... but that coincided with him starting to believe his own hype. He turned a bit grumpy and disappeared up his own anus. A look at his stats since seems to suggest he has stayed there. Perhaps? Has he been unlucky or is he reaping what he's sown?
The United job is impossible. Wilder is one of the best managers in Britain and he couldn’t do it. Paul is not at that level but clearly took it on because no one else would want it at this stage of the season.
the latter. I'll get pelters but I'm fine with that. agree though, that the blades gig makes no odds. even pep wouldn't have turned that round.
Paul Heckingbottom did a great job of keeping the momentum going when Little Lee bailed on us. That achievement should not be underestimated. But other than that, he has achieved nowt.
It was only the takeover that stopped him getting the sack here. I loved it when he admitted being classed as one of our own never sat right with him and made him cringe. As dour as Paul Hart when he jumped ship.
I watched the Sheffield United v Leeds the other week. United were 2-1 down in the 2nd half hecky then took mcburnie off and brought on Paul Egan a defender mind boggling stuff. If he wasn't so negative playing 451 here leeds and hibs with a negative style his win % could improve alot.
He could have made a name for himself with us. Sadly his stubbornness and dour demeanour and 17 game winless run soured all that.
Anyway, it doesn't matter about wins percentages. It's all about the quality of the football and the entertainment.
Thrown in at the deep end too, knew nobody, no pre-season, no time to work on his tactics etc. What a fantastic job.
The fact he was born in barnsley gave him abit more time some would have still been singing hes one of our own if he took us down to league 2.
football management seems to be one of the few professions where you can fail and be re employed doing the same job.
In my view, he only kept the pot boiling after The Dwarf had finally lucked his way to a team and formation which could win games. He got dealt a bad hand in the January 2017 transfer window, but it turned him into a bitter whinger, who went into his shell with a horrible defensive style. He never showed that he had any inkling of how to stop the bleeding after that January, though I accept that doing so would have been a task for even an experienced manager. Failed at Leeds - Bielsa has many of those players halfway up the Premier League (and, yeah, I get that comparing him to Bielsa is again a tough gig.) Failed at Hibs. Has not yet got close to stopping the rot at Yoonited. Thanks for the £500,000, Leeds!
When he took over in 2016 did he not just keep same táctics as LJ? The simple attacking 442 that turned our season around I mean.
