Help Advice needed re 4x4 driving...

Does anyone know where I can get cheap 4x4 training fairly locally?

Whilst I consider myself a good driver (I used to be a driving instructor and have driven all over Europe - anything up to 7.5 tonners) I am not arrogant enough to think I can just jump into a 4x4 and go anywhere. I have a 'softroader' 4x4 (Yeti with rough road pack) on order as I am moving to rural Italy and some areas are pretty rugged particularly during winter rain/ snow so I could do with some training.

Any help and advice would be appreciated as most training seems to be in the form of the 'Experience' days and are a) expensive and b) come with all sorts of extras I don't need (like a video/photo 'memories of your day'

Get thi sen darn to asda carpark about 9.30 pm and ask 1 of 'yoofs' in there sooped up astras and I'd dare say they'll show thi a trick or 2!

I originally ordered mine back in May 2011 - from a company called Autofinders. They've since gone Tits Up and so I cancelled my order about three weeks ago and ordered with Rainworth Skoda in Mansfield. They reckon a build date within about 4 weeks!! Sick of waiting really!

Is yours coming from a local dealer?

 

Ordered mine early March through Drive the Deal and the franchise is Hayseldens in Doncaster (wonder if it comes with a towbar as standard? ;-) ) Tow Skoda dealers (Leeds and Sheffield) would not even consider a discount and one didn't even ring me back after two attempts to contact them. Spoke to contact at Hayseldens yesterday and Skoda haven't even allocated a build date yet. Looks like they may have used their 'allocation' so may have a long wait yet. The dealers told me 6-7 months - not holding my breath - but, in fairness, Drive the Deal did warn me that a factory order with extras - I need the rough road kit and Gobi Leather as it is for rural Italy and black interiors are just too warm - can be up to 12 months. What model did you order? As it is a 4x4 I am told the Haldex system is the 'botteleneck as they are used across the whole VW/Audi/Skoda 4x4 range.

 

Got an Elegance CR170 on order with a few bits. Rainworth had a short build date because they had not used their allocation - and my build date is current week 30 (next week) but this is obviously possibly gonna change.... I went for black leather myself though (aqua blue metallic).

Autofinders (before they went bust) dealt with five dealers - of which none had allocation which is why I was kept waiting...

Quite interesting that Hayseldens got involved with a broker. I asked back in May 2011 and they weren't interested at all.

 

Went for an Elegance 140 myself as it is fast enough/enough torque for my needs. Chose red as base colour as easier to match (allegedly) when it gets the inevitable (Italian drivers dont forget) bumps and scrapes. Suspect I may have a long wait though. Let me know how you get on.
