Logged in tonight - got an automatic update for IE7, agreed to download, which it did successfully, and entire internet crashed, total freeze.

I could get my own files, but everytime I tried IE the whole thing has frozen up.

Quick telecall to Orange - advice, you need a disk with IE6 on so you can reload it, Ring Microsoft or go to PC World.

Microsoft are closed, the lad at PC World say they don't do em.

Gone into add / remove programmes but IE7 ain't there, and system restore won't let me go back to a previous date.

Somehow I have managed to get in on Mozilla Firefox - But how do I undo this fecking disaster in which I find myself? Is it possible to download IE6 and will that override IE7?

Cheers

In your Add/Remove Programs dialogue

Check the "Show Updates" box in the top centre.
It will list all the Windows Updates in chronological order.
Some can be removed, some cannot but you never know your luck.

Are you sure IE 7 isnt in ADD/Remove programmes?

Have you looked for just IE 7? If so, it's listed as Windows Explorer 7

I get an occasional message coming up saying my system cannot support IE7 so the update has been stopped - this when I've not even tried to download it!

If your Windows isn't genuine, IE7 won't install in the first place.
Or so I'm told...er I mean overheard in a pub...from some strangers, like, nobody I knew...

Right, it was your "mate" that tried to upload IE7 wasnt it, "he" should know it wont upload to a non genuine version, "he" should turn off auto updates...

I guess you could edit the installer so it doesn't check. Worked for Windows Defender.
But I - er, my mate- prefers Firefox anyway.

I intend to look into it

.. just as soon as me mate gets back from his holidays.

I haven't ruled out er.... user incompetence as a possible cause, but I'd rather try it again when he's around. It took about 5 hours, a call to orange, a call to Microsoft and a trip to P C World before I found the remedy right here on this board.

I'm usually pretty good at computer stuff, but occasionally I have been known to make the odd cataclysmical error. This may just have been one of those times [IMG]

Mate I had the same problem with IE7. On the properties in IE7 I clicked restore on it and was fine

Seems like its got major probs with the new update.
After I clicked restore on the properties (right click on the IE7 and select internet properties) it worked.
