Sorry, it's a school thing. It's time for 'Name in a hat' again (disclaimer: they're never anything like hats) where the Head draws a name at random for a prize from some contraption each class has made. The kids really want to do a Man U programme (his favourite team) with him as manager as he is retiring and them as the new 2014-2015 squad. We've been out and took pics of them doing pretend training activites but they are stuck as to where to put the actual names he needs to choose from. He needs to not be able to see them beforehand. The hubby keeps insisting they should do a half time draw raffle inside as apparently it's 'hilarious' that you'd have to draw it yourself. I'm not exactly keen but can't think of anything better. They'll be around 50 names (as they get them for being good over the last few days, so not just 1 each). I know the whole programme idea is naff but that's what they want to do so I'm just trying to roll with it. Ideas of how/where to put the names is needed though. Thank you!
Not sure I've understood correctly but couldn't you have a squad of 50 players (OK it's a bit large but you could pretend Flicker was the manager) with each "player" having squad number. You would then simply need to draw the numbers out of a hat - the head could see the players' names but would not know which number would be drawn out. You could also have the same squad arranged in a (kind of) kit sponsorship page, again with their squad numbers being drawn. Probably got the wrong end of the stick but will keep thinking............. Edit: Could you cover the players' names with an opaque sticker which could then be peeled off at random to reveal the name underneath? The stickers could have a blank head and shoulders picture like we used to see on our official site on transfer deadline days.
So youre making a football programme (as in the 3 quid things) and need to somehow hide a load of names inside that he will pull out randomly? Have I read that correctly?
This was the solution I am toying with. The names need to actually be part of the programme somehow rather than them in a separate hat.
Unfortunately, we've left it ridiculously too late and it needs to be ready for 9:15am (kids come in at 8:45am and register). I could do it myself at home, like all the other classes cheat and do, but I always stick to the rules and get the kids to make all of it.
Do you have something you could make to look like a season ticket, with a name for each match? For him to pull one out at random? Would be about the right amount of matches for a Man Utd season. To make it authentic you'd have to charge all the other kids for their tickets though, whether they turn up or not.
I agree either the names covered up like that or if its easier quicker just have the names written on the pages somewhere and have him open the programme on a random page and read out the name in the way you cut a deck of cards without looking.
Probably too difficult to make in the time available but you could have all the names arranged concentrically in a circle on a piece of thin card sandwiched between 2 other pieces of card, one with a slot cut in it to show one name. The inner circular card would be secured in the middle so it could be rotated. The head could then shut his eyes, rotate the card, and the selection would appear in the window. A bit like a revolving door with the players' names on it!!!! What a wonderful way to spend a creative thinking evening!
how about this luvvy make the fake programme up and have a page inside with the names of all the kids in the "Hat" with a number next to them... then just get a book of raffle tickets .... then put into a hat/container the 50 or so tickets needed and then draw the winner from that lot.
I like it!! They originally wanted to do something with a moving part (we've been doing moving books in DT) and wanted a stadium with crowds lifting up their arms when we pull on a lever (I had to veto the stadium idea due to lack of time though).
Never mind about all these boring new signings, the real news is how did the football programme draw go? Full report please.
It went really well thank you! So well in fact that the Headteacher asked if he could take it home with him (we normally give it to one of the children who helped make it). We went for the shirts on the back with the children name written on the back of it (which he was also impressed with )
