I need help to chop down a tree and to cut back overhanging branches on another tree. Can anyone quote me for the work or know anyone who can? It is a fairly large tree & it maybe best to have a look first. Cheers in anticipation.
Sorry can't help on actually doing the job but please make sure the tree is not protected in any way. You'd be amazed at the draconian measures which could be taken against someone who fells a protected tree, which is a criminal offence punishable by unlimited fines.
Yep. Next door neighbour got stung for cutting off branches on a tree in their garden. Problem was that it was protected because it was the home of bats Sent from my GT-I9300 using Forum Runner
you will need more than two blokes for the job an Irish man I know said that you need to speak with "Tree Fella's" "I'll get mi coit"
As above please check that it's not protected. 20k fine if it is and you chop it down. A professional arborist should check for you. Ironically though if you do check it is sometimes enough of a trigger for the council to put a TPO on it, it in the name of amenity.
I believe you have to give at least 6 weeks notice, which gives them enough time to put a TPO on it, as you say. On other point to bear in mind is that if you use a petrol chainsaw, make sure you put super unleaded in it.
I omitted to say that I have one of those small electric scorpion saw which may come in handy for cutting the smaller branches
Thanks Wilko, you certainly can have the wood! I've got to get in touch with the land owners whose land the trees are on first, it's a school, so it may be some time, but I'll bear you in mind for the tree that is on my side of the fence.
Don't want to labour the point too much but it's not up to the landowner to give you permission to prune or fell a tree. You have to speak to the Tree Officer at Barnsley Council, Edward Jowett, 01226 772557. He'll probably give you the go-ahead anyway if the trees are not protected but you really ought to be on the safe side.
