My girlfriend snores like a pig, she went to the doctors and then she was sent to get a moulded mouth-guard fitted at B.D.G.H. Works a treat.

    Yep. They do work

Your doctor or dentist will arrange a referral. You need your own natural teeth (not dentures), healthy jaw joints and good, healthy gums.

The principle is that snoring results from your tongue falling againt the back of your throat during sleep, and the air passing through the saliva and mucus there makes the racket. The mouthguard is like 2 thin gumshields - one for the top teeth, one for the bottom - glued together in a position that postures the lower jaw forward. Your tongue is attached to your lower jaw so when that comes forward your tongue comes with it, keeping it off the back of your throat. Hey presto no snoring.

But they can be a bit uncomforable and pulling your jaw forward for an 8-hour stretch puts strain on the jaw joints, muscles and gums, so all need to be in tip-top shape.
