I currently have digital TV via cable + the analogue aerial. I can record one programme from the digital set top box and watch a different channel on analogue (and vice-versa) If I get freeview instead and so get the digital signal from the analogue aerial does that mean I can only watch what I am recording (pointless) or can the Video recorder still 'tune' to a different channel like it does with an analogue signal so I can watch one thing whilst recording another? I suspect this question will arise when they turn analogue off in a few years.

I take it that you mean if you only have the Freeview digital box - you can only record what you are watching....you can get Freeview boxes though that have a hard drive and work like Sky+....these have 2 receivers in them so you can watch one channel whilst recording another

Cool! Thanks for the help still think I might go Sky+ though since my work has decided to let me work at home and is giving me free broadband and phones etc so my Blueyonder package is surplus to requirement. I worked out that I can get Sky+(full package), personal phone and broadband for less than I am currently paying for Broadband, phone & TV (No Sky)... Just got to persuade the missus why I need all that footie etc.that's all!:(

Don't know much about these things but...

We have freeview via a box on normal TV. We can only record the channel that we are watching. That is of course when the bloody thing has a signal... not right impressed with our signal reception rate...

As long as you set to record a freeview channel, you can watch ANY other channel on your telly.

As eaststander says you can get freeview boxes with 2 tuners and a hard drive.

Otherwise to record one freeview channel and watch another after analogue switchoff you would need 2 freeview boxes. In that sort of situation one of these might come in handy, they're about the size of a *** packet:

Before analogue swithoff you can watch one analogue channel whilst recording a freeview one with just the one box.

    What I do

Is I record BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Ch4 from analogue signal and only record none terrestrial channels from digital feed. This allows me to watch any digital channel and still record a terrestrial channel.  It means I can't record a non-terrestrial channel and watch another non-terrestrial channel but that never happens.
