Help Required - are we really going into the season

with Dagnall as our second best striker?

Not improving the defence that shipped goals for fun last season?

With a weaker squad than last season, despite only staying up due to a team going into admin?

Making little improvement on the team that, from Christmas last season was by far and away the worst side in the League?

F*ck me sideways.

We're going down. You'd be mental to think otherwise.

 

Lots of mental people on here though.

 

We have bought a few midfielders though. And Hemsy says we are fit.

 

Optimism and positivity before we've even kicked a ball in anger = mental illness. What a strange world we live in.

 

In serious need on shelling out on some quality still and with less than a week and a half before the season starts i too am also concerned about the quality of our squad both at the back and up front.

 

The thing is listening to Hill he sees the same as us we need a Good defender and a good striker, he's on the look out so don't worry just let him get on with it

 

We are not competing at Championship level now Im not even sure we could compete in Div 1 now in desperate need of a takeover.

 

Pep signed Daggers and paid money for him at that. No reason to worry at all.

You said friendlies are not for anything other than getting fit, you even quoted Fergie as saying the same! The same Fergie that has just played Barca and played his best team, to try and get them ready for the season, not to get fit, go figure. I said yes you get fitTER by playing these games by playing these games but we all know at times they are slow.
They will be fit 100% by september when they play at 100%.

Personally I think we'll struggle, but none of us really know.

The 93-94 season was pretty poor. We struggled all season, the football was rubbish and we were in a bit of a mess. In the summer our manager left and an inexperienced Danny Wilson took over. He didn't sign a single player so we went in to the new season with the same squad that that had towed its ballacks off the previous season. To add insult to injury half the ground was closed down, but the few thousand who still cared could fit in quite comfortably. Everyone expected relegation. What followed was one of the best seasons in my lifetime. A 6th placed finish, some scintillating football, pure joy from August to May.

There's a moral in that story somewhere.

a) Keith Hill hasn't learnt anything from last season in terms of tactics
b) the players not learning anything
c) the players not being coached better as a part of the manager and coaching teams learning process.

plus loads of other variables. Of course all this might be right, but since a ball hasn't been kicked yet, we just dont know.

It only happens once in 125 years? haha but yes, we just dont know....anyone who is so sure we are going down will presumably be putting lots of money on it at the bookies, right?

 

We're a couple of players away from a good team. If we sign Sonko I reckon (given his record) we would be halfway there. Don't forget for anyone who doesn't like Foster there's also Edwards too who hardly played last year due to injury. And I don't see how the addition of Mellis, Ethuhu, Cywka and Silva is 'little improvement' on the team that ended the season?
