    Got a Samsung surround Sound system in living room at home. The DVD player is rubbish!! Keeps jittering and then voices out of time with picture!! Tried everything - Cleaning - Kicking - Banging and throwing, all the usual men solutions!!

    Now decided that the best thing to do is get shut of DVD player and replace with another.

    Now my question is....... Will my speakers work with another DVD player?? Im sure they can but im useless at owt like this!! What will i need?? Simply just a player with same connections on back as the current one......

    Thanks in advance!:confused::biggrin:

    Something similar happened to mine just recently (except it was Sony!). Decided I didn't need the dvd player any more as I have the ps3 that plays blu ray and dvd so just bought a new amp for the sound system. However, the old sub-woofer wouldn't work with the new amp (although the other five speakers ok). To do with passive or active sub-woofers apparrently! Bought new sub and now system better than ever.

    Guess you would need to check that the sub-woofer works with any new dvd/amp you get. Very likely that all other types of speaker would be ok.

    P.S. Got my new stuff at Richer Sounds who were extremely helpful and cheap as well

    When you say 'Surround Sound System' - do you just mean you've got external speakers?

    The speakers should be fine, as long as the new device has the cable traps on the back so you can feed the copper ends into them. As for the synchronicity issue - basic but, have you tried turning down your TV speakers to 0 and only allowing sound through your surround sound device? Is the device connected to the TV via a TOSLINK cable (i.e. Optical Fibre)? If not, and your device and TV are capable of using one, I'd highly recommend using one for crystal clear sound performance.

    I'd recommend replacing with a Blu-Ray receiver system if your budget affords. You can still play DVD's and not only can you play them, but the Blu-Ray player will automatically upscale them to give you a far clearer, crisp playback.

    Yep that maybe right!! Should i have said Home Cinema System??!!:confused:

    have you tried turning down your TV speakers to 0 and only allowing sound through your surround sound device?
    That is what we have anyway. All sound comes though cinema system speakers. Its definatly the dvd player thats at fault. Its pants!! It were nowt expensive though. Few years back now but but a think it was only around 250 quid.

    Is the device connected to the TV via a TOSLINK cable (i.e. Optical Fibre)?
    Havent got the foggiest!!! SOS fitted it when we moved into house!! Me and cables don't mix!! I could well blow Monk Bretton up if i started!!:eek:

    You think a £250 DVD player wasn't expensive?

    Ours was £18.99! Had it a few years now and it's never been a bother.

    You can get a TOSLINK cable from Amazon for about £1.10 - don't be scammed by the big name stores trying to flog you cables at £15/20 (or even more). They do the exact same job as the big name branded ones.

    Optical fibre is immune from electro magnetic interference, so will improve your sound quality significantly.

    Here: This is what I've got and works absolutely bang on - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Optical-Cable-Toslink-1M/dp/B00077DC5Q/ref=pd_cp_ce_2
