Long story, so bear with me.

In January I provisionally bought a car from Perrys subject to a suitable test drive. In his eagerness the salesman registered the car and taxed it in my name before i test drove it. I didn't like the car, so bought a different one (from sale dealer). Because he had registered it to be able to tax it, I was told to return the logbook to Perrys as soon as i received it, so they could return it to DLVLA and get my name removed so it would not add an extra owner. So i returned the full log book. The salesman told me that someone else had bought the car.

In June i received a tax disc reminder for the car which i returned with a covering letter explaining that I never owned the car. This week i got a letter from the DVLA saying that someone else had applied to be recorded as the registered keeper (probably so they could tax it).

However, today I have received a 'notice of intended prosecution' for failing to stop at a red light in the vehicle.

What is the best way of convincing Soth Yorks Police that I have never owned this vehicle

    TIA

Let Perrys deal with the problem. Speak to DVLA in my experiences with them they have been very helpful even though they are all welsh!!

You will have to return the "NIP" stating that you weren't driving the car and then you will get a summons to Magistrates Court where you can explain it. The police won't listen as it's now been passed on a stage from them. While you wait for the summons, get something in writing from Perrys to the effect that it is an administration error on their behalf (plus get a soddin great apology for their over eager salesman). Deffo speak to the DVLA as well, they would want to sort it before it gets to Court as well. Hope this helps.

Good luck when dealing with the DVLA

I've been getting threatening letters from them about not taxing my camper van for years now. Apparently it's been seen untaxed outside my house. I've told them repeatedly that the van is owned by someone at house number 97, not 7 where I live. Do they update their records? No. The funny thing is, the van is taxed so they must have the van registered at two addresses. So not only are they incompetant, they're lying too. The van has definitely not been seen untaxed on the road outside my house.

My girlfriend has not been getting her tax renewal reminders, despite being registered at this address for a number of years. She sold the car a couple of months ago. Guess what plopped through the door a few weeks ago. Ee-aw.
