I've slated the lad on here but it's only right I praise him tonight! Had a good game, and it was a nice finish too, hopefully a sign of things to come! Overall, I thought it was a pretty poor game, Oldham dominated possession but never really tested us. I didn't think we got going at all, sloppy in possession (a familiar story this season!) and particularly Lewin Nyatanga whos distribution was atrocious!! However, a win's a win and it should give the lads some confidence going into a tough game at Swindon on Saturday!
I'll give him his due for getting the winning goal with a good finish, but I wouldn't say he had a particularly good game. Looked totally knackered/disinterested after half-time. The fact he scored will mean he'll probably start at Swindon but I'd have Winnall back in instead.
I'm sorry but I've got to disagree with you on Hemmings. Yes he got the winning goal but everything else was very poor in my opinion. I hope he had an injury towards the end of his match because he was shocking, he wouldn't run, wouldn't jump and didn't look bothered. The quicker Sammy Winnall gets back in the team the better for me.
Sorry but Hemmings was appalling again tonight. His performance was almost a carbon copy of Saturday other than he got his goal. Cracking finish though.
At the risk of sounding a pillock I think he's an excellent striker. Winnall is adored because of his all round game but we will never get that from Hemmings, however if he gets the right service I'm sure he will score a lot more goals.
I agree with you to be fair and suspect he's the best finisher at the club. He needs to sort his fitness out thoughtful he won't get the chance to show this or be on the end of chances when he does.
If Hemmings continues to get played and continues to score despite his all round game being quite poor, then that's absolutely fine by me. On the evidence so far though I'd much rather have Winnall ahead of him in the side.
Good finish... And better than he has been... But still way off! Needs to work harder off the ball, better movement to create space and he needs to fight harder to keep ball...
Hemmings is still an awful player. Took his goal really well but after that it was back to normal, missed a sitter then either lost it or never got near it. Never linked up once with Waring who held the ball up brilliantly. Sam must start next game.
I still think he's a good finisher but his all round game looks a couple of levels short of League 1. He has no anticipation, doesn't read the game well at all. Simple things like completely misjudging where a goalies kick is going to land he just doesn't seem to get. It's a shame because he's certainly a capable finisher but it's like playing with 10 men the rest of the time
I was very disappointed with him today, apart from the finish of course! He seemed half hearted for most of the match. He was sort of getting in the positions but then making next to no effort to actually win the ball or make a challenge. Whereas Waring at the side of him was battling for everything. And Winnall was getting stuck in once he came on. The goal may buy him a little more time, but Winnall and Waring will be first choice from here on.
