    When i was a young lad in Birdwell,there were 3 butchers on Chaple street,Carra,thornley,s,and wallers,next door to the Travellers,and a very big family of them tooo,(some one fromBirdwell may recall this)the school opposite the club,a lttle boy about 4 years of age sat waiting for his brothers,(Wallers) when a lorry carrying barrels of(cant rember vinegar or beer)fell of the truck,and chopped the lads leg off,enought to kill any youngster,but no,not many weeks passed by,and that lad was out playing with the other kids as if nowt had happened,i hope he is still around,....Now My cousin ,now passed on,from Birdwell,who was a quier loner,before the war.lived a life on the dole...then came the WW2,he joined the aemy(not much choice)he spent the entire War in Ireland,in the pioneer corps,after the war finished he was a changed man(never married)you could not stop hi from Working,he was a sweeper upper at Firth browns,sheffield,till one day,a wagon wheel,they made fell off the stack,and chopped his leg clean off,would you blieve in weeks,he was out and about,using a crutch,as tho nowt had happened,then he got his Wooden leg,after a short while,even tho he got compensated well, he was back at work, Disaster ,another wagon wheel fell,and chopped off his other leg, from that he never recovered,..he was my cousin,JIm MELL....ive told you of the Walkers father and son who both lost legs inww1,andww2...go to Birdwell,and ask any old timers,they wil know....ask Jack Noble radio ham G3JZJ(put it in google) then qrz.com...enter g0dob,or g3jzj..go on,you got nowt else to do.....see what you come up with............
