And what did they claim? Did they deny paying pigs & blunts 3.5x more than us or the 26% reduction or being biased?
RE: And what did they claim? Denied offering us 3.5 times less than the Sheffield clubs and said they have a deal so that we would be on anyway against the Sheffield teams and so I guess we cannot stop them from commentating on those games.
We can't stop them commentating anyway I don't thnk. They will already have a deal with the football league to commentate on games, it's just access to our players etc that thy don't have permission for
But, given what's going on, they'll probably choose not to commentate on our games other than those against the Sheffield clubs
Said they were doing 17 commentaries instead of 24 last season so they dropped the fee by 25% They said it's totally untrue that SUFC and SWFC get 3.5 times more money offered than us, and that it's hard to compare Radio Sheff going to BFC than SUFC and SWFC as the costs are totally different putting a live commentary on. He mentioned fencing + other things that they have to pay for and it must be more expensive doing it live in sheff than it is at Oakwell. But he's writing to GS again tomorrow. One thing i have heard today is that GS has been at DearneFM today, i don't know why he was there but he was.
RE: Said they were doing 17 commentaries instead of 24 last season The deal they offered was because they anticipated doing fewer commentaries ie the 17 instead of the 24 they did last year.</p> They said they wanted the impasse to end and also that they would continue dialogue.</p> You can listen again on Radio Sheffield's website when this show finishes.</p>
But the number of commentary games is irrelevant because the fee per game is set, so by having fewer games we get less money anyway, regardless of the additional payment which is for access for interviews etc.
I think they should sit down and have an arm wrestle that RS bloke sounded very bitter about not been let into Oakwell today
RE: But the number of commentary games is irrelevant They re-iterated the fact that they were banned fom pre match press conferences and from the Manager and players.
RE: I think they should sit down and have an arm wrestle Heee hee, they obviously got the big boss in to make the statement.</p> Giddings isn't intelligent enough to make a statement ad lib like that.</p>
RE: But the number of commentary games is irrelevant Fair enough if they use that as the reason, but they are also trying to justify it by saying there'll be fewer commentary games which is a completely seperate payment.
the only thing i can think of is that they are saying that because they have problems with BFC (access etc and last seasons refusal to talk to them) then they are going to do less commentary because it's just not worth doing without the access that they get at other clubs and because they are only going to be using the player access a significantly lower amount of times than last year they cannot justify paying the same amount. if that makes any sense
What happens when we play the Sheffield clubs in the league, will Radio Sheffield be there or not? I think we should all stop listening to the radio station, they are biased anyway!
So if were top of the league at xmas and the big 2 are treading water midtable what a load of B*ll*cks</p>
Their statement from BBC website <h3>Radio Sheffield's statement in response to Barnsley FC</h3> Supporters may have read a statement on the Barnsley FC official website regarding the club's relationship with BBC Radio Sheffield. In the interests of keeping supporters fully informed, BBC Radio Sheffield has issued the following statement.</p> "BBC Radio Sheffield is disappointed that it cannot bring commentary of Barnsley FC games to our listeners this season. We have a long tradition of providing a service for Barnsley supporters that for many years no other radio station has been prepared to fund. </p> "Our listeners can be reassured that we will continue to provide match reports and goal updates from all of Barnsley’s games this season.</p> "There are two issues here and it would be wrong to link them together. </p> "The first issue is commentary rights. The commentary deal proposed by Barnsley FC for this season was way in excess of what the BBC was prepared to pay, at a time when we need to deliver value for money for our license fee payers. </p> "Barnsley wanted to increase the commentary rights for the season by 150%. The offer made by the BBC wasa reduction of last season's figure because we anticipatefull match commentary on 25% fewer games this season.</p> "It is untrue to suggest that our commentary offers to the two Sheffield clubs was 3.5 times larger than the one made to Barnsley and we have asked them to remove this claim from their official website. </p> "Following the rejection of our offer for season long commentary rights, we have offered to pay for commentary rights per game at a fee agreed nationally by the BBC and the Football League, but this has been rejected by Barnsley FC.</p> "We are also disappointed that we cannot interview the team manager and players because general access (such as at press conferences and after matches) is entirely unconnected to whether a media organisation has a commentary deal or not with a particular club. </p> "The BBC never pays extra for access to any club for interviews – just like other broadcasters and newspapers. We note that Barnsley FC continue to give access to other media organisations, both broadcast and print, who do not have a commentary deal and indeed may never have had one in the past. </p> "We are puzzled why our listeners should be penalised in this way, particularly when no other media organisation in the region invests as much in football as BBC Radio Sheffield. </p> "Other local radio broadcasters are able to negotiate commentary deals – the BBC arrangements are always non-exclusive. None ever did.The BBC has been the only broadcaster to do regular commentary on Barnsley FC for many years.</p> "We are disappointed that we have failed to reach an agreement but we continue to be in correspondence with Barnsley FC in the hope that this matter can be resolved to the satisfaction of both parties."</p>
exactly It's just a great load of cobblers to try and fob us off. No matter if we agree terms they will still be totally biased in any case.
