anyone know owt about the 'therapeutic approaches' available to treat heroin dependence? Either that, or anything about social/psychological/biological issues with regards to the addiction. For an exam next week (banghead) Ta in advance
Look into Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and the cycle of change (prochaska and diclemente) for a kick off
Just spent the last six weeks working in drug/alcohol detox it is primarily driven by the medical model, stabilising the user on methadone or subutex, detoxing using lofexidine, antiemetics, antihistamines and analgesia all the time backing this up with psychological support which is usually cognitive behaviour therapy, motivational interviewing etc
and if evidence were needed marti pellow on "The two of us" at the mo, looks like *****, well ravaged.
send me a pm saying exactly what info you need. You should base your answer around Prohaska and di Clementes Cycle of change, Bandura's Social Learning Theory, Roy Robertsons Treatment of Drug Use in the Community and Nick Seivewrights Community Treatment of Drug Misuse. If you can get access to it through Blackwell Puplishing, the magazine Addiction will have all the information you need, Let me know if you ca'nt get on and I'll do a literature search for you. I've also got thousands of journal articles.
