on Marc Richards REDS boss Andy Ritchie has revealed that new signing Marc Richards turned down better offers from other clubs in order to prove himself at Oakwell Andy said: "Marc has agreed to join us but has only committed to a short term contract until the New Year because he wants to prove himself here. Marc is very convinced that he can impress at this level and I believe he has shown a lot of bottle and loyalty to Barnsley Football Club in signing this deal. "Marc had offers from other clubs and there were two year deals on the table for him but he wants to play for this Club and wanted to come here. He had offers that would have given him financial security for two years and he turned his back on those to sign for us. That shows what he thinks about the club and about the coaching staff here. He wants to be part of what we are trying to achieve at Barnsley Football Club and he is putting himself on the line to prove his worth to us. It is refreshing to see a player put the club before his own security and I am sure he will do well for us"
Or alternatively, Andy.... REDS boss Andy Ritchie has revealed that new signing Marc Richards didn't want to commit himself to Barnsley for any longer than 4 months cos he knows nowt about us and we might turn out to be **** and nowhere near the play-off places. He had longer contract offers from smaller, **** clubs but is hoping to impress in the next few months so that either a bigger club comes in for him or he can get a far better contract out of us! That shows what he thinks about the club and about the coaching staff here!!
RE: Or alternatively Lets hope he scores 10 goals, then give him a proper contract,if not we can let him go,good business.
In my opinion...... He obviously wants to play at a higher level and is therefore ambitious and confident that he has the ability to succeed at this level. He could have taken the easy option and signed for a league 2 club, instead he taken the more risker option and signed for us. I would rather sign a player who is ambitious and something to prove, than someone who is only here to pick up a larger pay cheque.
You all miss my point .... .. I'm not knocking the lad, I know very little about him and want him to be a great success. What I'm saying is he is obviously keeping ALL his options open and I would do the same. If he gets a few goals and wants to stay, he will be in a good bargaining position in terms of a new contract. If he gets a few goals and wants to go, he'll have put himself in the shop window. I have no problem with that. I just think Ritchie is either very nieve, if he believes the things he's said, or he thinks the fans are very nieve and will believe what he's said. Do you see what I'm saying now?
RE: FFS alreight then give him a 2 year contract so all the moaning ******** have a bit more fodder if he turns out to be ***** FFS
or maybe publicly backing his new signing and try and... get him in a poitive light with our notoriously fickle fans
