Before that head-on for Owen's second Heskey has a quick look across the edge of the box to pick out Owen's run. I humbly apologise for whatever it was I said on hearing the news of Heskey's reselection.
Hold on... There's no need for an apology here... Heskey damn well needed to produce some performances here and the negative comments about his recall came from years of missed sitters, anonymous games and generally failing to fulfil his obvious potential. Full credit where it's due, he's been excellent in these two games, but it doesn't make up for years of cack! If I were a cow I'd be watching my arse, cos Emile might even get his banjo out soon...!
RE: Hold on... Indeed. And I'll probably be slating him again soon. That's how it is in this game. But I'm normally one of the optimists so it smarts to remember how critical I was of his selection. He's put in a couple of good performances here as you say. It's only been two games but it's been when we needed them.
I agree 5 goals in 44 appearances isn't really good enough for a striker, but if he keeps setting the goals up then I've no problems with him being in the side, even ahead of Rooney.
RE: Hold on... 14 goals for Owen in 14 games played with Heskey. Can't just be coincidence. Owen has said himself he enjoys playing with Heskey. If they keep that sort of partnership going then Heskey doesn't need to be scoring goals. Lets face it Rooney isnt a goalscorer.
I hope he does, that lovely person Seth Bennett called Heskey a cart horse on football heaven today.

Lets put it into perspective here..... We have played Isreal and Russia. Hes won a few headers that he never would have done against a decent team. Hes missed a couple of sitters in these two games......shows no signs of scoring. Hes not international class, yet people are raving about him again. Shows what a sorry state england are in.
RE: Lets put it into perspective here..... no but he's a foil to Owen but what I don't like is a third rate radio presenter calling a premier league, England international a 'cart horse'
RE: Lets put it into perspective here..... Well, if you look at the real meaning of "cart horse" then he probably is. I agree though - it would have been meant as a put down. He doesnt score goals. He doesnt look like scoring goals. Its OK saying hes a foil for Owen, but put the Italians on him for example and he then becomes inaffective. I would not want to go into an international tournament with Heskey as first choice striker thats for sure.
RE: Lets put it into perspective here..... Rooney isn't exactly prolific at international level. At least Heskey seems to get the best out of our one and only goalscorer.
14 goals in 14 games for Owen when partnered with Heskey. Now I dont know who they are all against but I am sure they aren't all against the so called smaller nations. And Russia had only let in 1 goal before tonight, must have been doing something right. Israel have also become a respected team, although I do admit they were poor on Sat.
Yh, I think we all remember that one. One of those events where you will always remember where you were.
are you sure he said cart horse and not work horse??? cos thats what heskey is. he works and works hes never been a prolific goalscorer cos thats not his game. hes the one that does all the donkey work (not to be mis-interpreted that he's a donkey) and that helps owen do what he does best, hang around the area for the knock ons and flick downs, as today, and score goals 14 goals in 14 games for owen with heskey. please someone tell me the ratio with owen and rooney. it aint no coincidence mclaren has to keep these together now. as he does with gerrard and barry
Owen is the main man when it comes to goals and having Heskey in seems to bring the right balance and gets the best out of Owen. He has said it himself, he prefers playing with Heskey. And 1 in 3 isnt prolific. 1 in 2 and better is prolific. If Rooney gets 90 caps and keeps up that rate he will have 30 goals, in the also rans in the England goalscoring charts.
no he said cart horse , the caller questioned it and he confirmed what he said. Smart arsed lovely person.
