I am signing this petition at the behest of my good friend and upon reading some of the comments here can understand why religion is such a divisive force. Anyone expecting a reasoned, careful response from the authorities ruling Sudan must be living in a time-warp. The fact that they are complicit in the Janjaweed's quest to eliminate the black Sudanese population should be the biggest clue to their philosophies. For those petition signatories who question giving aid to the Sudanese government, question instead why we as world citizens do not do more to stop what is happening over there. Why are we notdoing more to support the UN Peacekeeping Mission? This is just a repeat of the situation in Rawanda, a failed UN peace-keeping mission despite the valiant efforts of Gen. Romeo Dallaire. His hands were tied by the rulings of the UN Security Council and he was forced into a no-win position and succumbed to his state of depression and asked to be relieved of his post. Perhaps it is time to SERIOUSLY review the reform of the UN Security Council and provide the peacekeeping forces with a better set of teeth to deal with the travesties that exist there. I don't believe this was an intentional slight on Ms Gibbons part but rather a bit or cultural ignorance. The children were too young to know that it was wrong religiously to use Muhammed's name in that way but I am sure it was intended as a compliment and sign of honor to name a treasured item after Muhammed. </div></div>

Considering that most teddy bears that get named are usually loved and cared for...it would seem more like a compliment then a case of blasphemy. Many Western liberals are a bunch of hypocrites

They're supposed to be committed to equality, women's rights, gay rights, free speech. right to vote etc etc and yet they consistently support regimes and ideas that are opposed to their own core values. e.g. Feminist journalists who support Iran against the USA - but where would they rather live? I bet it's not Tehran.

Truth is that for various reasons western liberals take an anti-western (i.e. anti-Christian, anti-Capitalist, anti-USA) stance on so many issues that they're even willing to compromise their own beliefs to do so.

Criticising this woman for naming a teddy bear "Mohammed" is another example of the same hypocrisy. Imagine the outrage there would be from liberals if Christians in America wanted to imprison someone for using "Jesus" as a swear word.
