While stationed down the Suez,in1953/54 after leaving korea They knew my time was runnig out so they gave ma a COOKHOUSE JOB Ther i nearly blow the cookhouse apart but thats another story we Had wgyptions Grafting for us one morning,a mate said the Gyppo wants his breakfast so i went to the Egyptian Gentleman he gave me an empty can there was lots of Bacon and eggs left,so i fillled his can and gaveit to him the reaction from him was ,shock, surprise, madness, i though he was going to kill me i did not know owt about muslim dislikes then along comes Ramadam and the gan of workers ,Muslims, all sat in a crowd on the floor not eating, OH YEAH,HA,Ha<HA,...... thats all im going to say Come on Barnsley
haha you mean you didn't know that Muslims fast in Ramadan and that they don't eat certain foods? lol.
well it was in 1953 Conko, maybe Muslim customs weren't common knowledge then. they are now because we have them rammed down our throats
Very true,i was in asian country nearly four years never knew thier customs cos,i dont think some of them knew thier customs either
RE: I've never had their customs rammed down my throat nt Lucky you. You don't read the papers, watch the news, have kids that have to fit in with them at school, local councils who bend to their whims and on and on and on
haha I doub many of you guys did back then Oldtimer, during the second world war my grandad was in India and Burma etc fighting the Japs but I very much doubt if he knew much about the culture of the people their. He did once tell me that some Burmese villagers gave them some goat meat and it was the best meat he had ever tasted. haha. I've never fancied it myself.
RE: I've never had their customs rammed down my throat nt Kanecat, are you highly influenced by the tabloid press?
I don't understand this one. I had a muslim mate who came from Uganda, and he use to eat and drink at Ramadan. He said he could eat and drink because of the heavy work we were doing then. Apparently there are lots of exemptions from fasting. Children and the sick and the Elderly being a case. I think it depends on which branch of Islam you follow.
depends how strict you are to be honest. My mates fast during ramadan but then still drink alcohol when it is not ramadan etc.
RE: I've never had their customs rammed down my throat nt I read the papers but i don't let them influence me
RE: I've never had their customs rammed down my throat nt How does what work? i don't believe everything the papers say eg. The Daily Sport once said a woman had an alien living her stomach
then there was the time,in 54, i went out in the desert doig a job, when it came to breaktime, the kids were begging for food so i gave them my lunch next day i took estra food and treat the kids then when went to my lunch box they had nicked that as well youve gorra laugh
RE: I've never had their customs rammed down my throat nt Oh thats easy, neither do I. Some stuff is obvious. But to say they do not influence me is impossible. Everything influences your judgment and the way you view things (to a lesser or greater extent), unless you are a robot.
