    Barnsley manager Keith Hill:

"It's not about the performance, it's about the result.

"Again, the performance was lacking penetration and I think it's obvious to everyone why we're not winning games and we're losing games.

"I just want to focus on one thing and it's definitely the result."

    ---

Before the Forest match last week, Hill said on Radio Sheffield that it wasn't about the result, but the performance. Make your mind up Keith!!!

We lose cos we can't defend and don't win because we can't score. Time to "mix it up a bit".

Scoring is our bigger issue........our "goals for" statistic is 2nd worst in Championship (behind Ipswich) and has not been addressed yet.

I honestly think that is because we always seem to look for another pass. Perfect example was Stone and Dawson pissing about on the edge of their area. Neither of them seemed to want to put a ball in, we lost it and then five seconds later we were defending a corner!

I agree; scoring goals or more precisely not scoring them will be what kills us. We need to address this issue and fast.

We need to address BOTH issues IMHO. We conceed goals far too easily and whilst ever the not scoring issue isn't addressed the players almost KNOW that the game is over.

Vast majority of goals are scored from within 18 yard box, so stands to reason that if you get ball in the 18 yard box more often, you will naturally get more goal scoring chances and hence more goals.

    SIMPLES

Said it before............we need a 4-4-2 and WINGERS (JOB and Silva would be a good start).

To be honest I think the conceding is more down to tactics and formation than it is personnel whereas scoring is down to the strikers not being good enough IMO. If we played with natural width the pressure would be taken off the full backs and then the centre halves. Only my opinion though.

Agree with that and at the moment, even when we do get it in the box, there's either nobody or just immobile Marlon there, so we have only something like a 1 in 6 chance of even getting on the end of something, even allowing for the fact that 'the Hare-wood' is really a '(bloomin' big) Tortoise'. Tickets and raffles etc, come to mind.

We do give away too many soft goals and that needs to be addressed but I couldn't help thinking on Saturday that actually the defensive players had cleaned a heck of a lot of stuff up too, because the amount of times that the likes of Mellis, Etuhu, Harewood and Cywka gave the ball away was mind-boggling.

And don't get me started on set pieces - the ref might just as well restart the game by giving the ball to the opposition because we give it them back as a matter of course anyway.

I'll always go and get behind them but unless we have the combination of returning players (JO'B, CD, Perkins and possibly Silva), a commanding leader and organiser at the back and a second striker threat up front, I can see us continuing to struggle.

That was almost a double whammy - we were fortunatle that Huddersfield didn't score on the breakaway.

Hmm, I see it quite the opposite. I agree we need more width in midfield to allow the full backs to stick to task. However, we keep playing the lone striker and packing the midfield - this in my view is trying to set up for a low-scoring game - concentrating on keeping the opposition out at the expense of our own creativity. If we still ship goals at the current alarming rate, surely this has to say something about the personnel?
