To equal the abysmal 48 points we accrued in the 2001/2 season where we finished 23rd. This just emphasises how **** we really are and that we did deserve to go down. It's only the fact that we can't afford to sack him that is keeping Keef in a job. That and the fsct that no one would want to inherit this awful squad.
Name one manager That we can realistically afford, who could do a better job with the budget we have, than Keith Hill. Got his hands tied behind his back really, he's had no choice but to stand back and watch two of our best players, players he recruited, leave the club. He said when he took over that his job was to maintain championship status, it's Pompey's fault they've gone into admin, so the points deduction is the minimum they deserve. Whatever way you look at it, he's achieved this season's objective. He shot himself in the foot with the league position we were in after 20 games, he raised expectations because of the good job he was doing, but our poor end to the season has coincided with the loss of our entire midfield. Give the guy a break.
Re: Name one manager He lost three midfielders (Drinkwater wasn't our player to lose) and he brought three in to replace them. The other players that have been injured are no better (or worse) than the ones who replaced them. Injuries are part and parcel of football. You'll be making the same excuses for him in a year's time when we are bottom of the table with 25 points.
Re: Name one manager Do you know the lottery numbers for wednesday night too? As for losing our midfield, JOB, Butterfield and Perkins were in fine form at the start of the season, all we could replace them with were inexperienced players such as Digby, back up players such as Doyle, or loanee's from prem clubs who were severely unfit such as Tonge, Cotterill and Smith. The only replacement midfielder who has been any sort of improvement from the original midfield is Dawson imo. Fair enough Drinkwater wasn't ours to lose, but we still miss him, he was pulling the strings in our midfield, now he's in someone elses. You didn't honestly think we'd be able to find another Vaz Te just like that did you, the most prolific goalscorer we've had in years.
Re: Name one manager What worries me the most is the failure to change the style. We've pissed about with playing Davies wide, Perkins at left back etc etc but we keep tip tapping about at the back. Our defenders see far too much of the ball.
Re: Name one manager I would struggle to find anyone who could conceivably have done worse the last 15 games. He has got a worse career record than both Spackman and Glyn Hodges. That's how bad it is.
Re: Name one manager Doyle a back up player? He's ten times the player Perkins is. Losing those players doesn't justify the kind of collapse we have had. There were numerous poor performances when all these players were fit anyway.
Re: Name one manager listen keith hill would be a good manager if it wasnt fio one word ROCHDALE.every time he's interveiwed theres always somert abart rochdale either the players he's got in 'they played well for me at rochdale' or what he did at rochdale ok he did do well at rochdale but we are barnsley not rochdale so if he does'nt get rochdale out of his thoughts then we will end up being where they are so come on keith now put all your thoughts and ideas on barnsley and forget abart rochdale.
No posts in this thread as yet to excuse the lack of basics shown. The inability to do basic defending, the inability to move forward to support the attack, the lack of shots. The head dropping and feeling sorry everytime each thing went wrong. The use of the same ineffective tactics/formation game in game out. Yes losing the players we lost and not finding replacements was bound to have a negative effect, but this was exasperated, nay, made countless times worse, by the aforementioned lack of applying the basics. Playing the missing Butterfield/Vaz Te/Drinkwater card wears thin when you look at the shambles we've seen since the new year.
Re: No posts in this thread as yet to excuse the lack of basics shown. The difference between us heading for a top 10 finish and finishing in the bottom 4 was those 3 players, its not an excuse, its fact. Ok, he then made some bad decisions, rather than buying 20 players who are much-of-a-muchness we should have gone all out for 2-3 good players. Hopefully next season KH will have learnt that lesson and go out to get 2 or 3 quality players.
Re: No posts in this thread as yet to excuse the lack of basics shown. And there lies the problem. He will sign more worse than average lower league players, because that is all he knows. And what worries me more than anything, is hearing our own supporters actually trying to convince themselves that Dawson is a Championship player. Blind loyalty is only going to cause more pain for the individuals come the end of next season.
Re: No posts in this thread as yet to excuse the lack of basics shown. Dawson is more of a Championship player than Perkins !!!! Golbourne looks like he could make it too, Wiseman on the other hand is total toss! Dagnall was not good enough at Scunny in the Championship, now I am not saying we are a great team/club but fookin ell we are definitely a step upo from Scunny!(well should be anyway). Nouble was toss last season, yet KH says its a no brainer to sign him !!! He is no better than he was last year. worse than Oddjob!!
