The cricket World Cup is at the Super 8 stage. England have qualified &, as far as I'm aware, play their first game at this stage in a day or two's time. However, according to the league table, we've already played & lost a match! How on earth does that work? I've only got a passing interest in cricket so it could be some kind of rule similar to the ones they use to decide the winners of 1 day games when they can't get a full days play. Oh, & how come a game that depends so much on fine weather during the summer was invented over here? (seestars)
It sounds as complicated as trying to work out what's going on in the Scots Premier League when it gets near the end of the season and the table splits in half and your last games are against either your relegation rivals - or teams challenging for 2nd place (given that Celtic or Rangers usually have the League sewn up by this February).
Teams carry through their points advantage from the first stage so group winners automatically have more points. As we lost to New Zealand, they were already 2 points ahead of us before either of us had played a Super 8 game. I suppose it makes sense but essentially spoils what little chance we had of making it any further
In the Super Eight stage, each team plays the other teams once, with the exception of the team they qualified from their group with whom they don't play, the result of the game between the 2 teams from the first round is carried forward. In England's case this was a defeat to New Zealand. As to your 2nd query - they used to just play teast match formats and actually play until there was a winner rather than limited to 5 days.
Don't be daft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/321_(number) The clues became notorious for being almost impossibly difficult and obscure, having only a remote connection to the prizes, which contestants sometimes didn't appear to grasp even after Ted had revealed it to them. For example, a wishbone brought on by Sonny Hayes came with the clue "Take one that never changes, add a pub and a precious stone, bring them all up-to-date, and now you're on your own", which the contestants rejected hoping it referred to Dusty Bin. Rogers explanation of the clue was: "'Take one that never changes', well that could be Dusty Bin which of course is where you might throw a wishbone. 'Add a pub and a precious stone', well that doesn't point to Dusty. 'Bring them all up-to-date, and now you're on your own'. Well what about the wishbone? Sonny said 'a large wishbone', so what might a large wishbone come from? Something larger than a chicken. Turkey maybe? Now 'one that never changes' is a constant, a pub can also be an inn, there's a lot of precious stones but how many go with 'constant inn'? How about opal? Yes, Constantinople, up-to-date, the pride of Turkey, you've rejected the 3-2-1 holiday!"
Englands chances of making the semis Have been improved by WI and Sri Lanka (teams carrying 2 points into the Super 8s) losing. Sri Lanka have only beaten Bangladesh and WI only beat Ireland.
England should beat Ireland and Bangladesh, meaning the only matches we need to win are WI (which we should do) and Sri Lanka where we'd need to raise our game. A good result against Australia or SA would be a bonus.

well the situation is we need to win four, two of which should be Ireland and Bangladesh, meaning winning two from the other four so doesnt really matter which ones it is, West indies is our last game so would be nice if we had four wins buy then, but as you say other results have gone for us.
