Martinez on Stones/Holgate similarities: "They are very, very different. In terms of personality they are very similar. That is the only comparison you can have." Really?
Good riddance. Guessing we've got a million up front plus add-ons. Now let's get it spent wisely and get out of this godforsaken division. If we play our cards right we'll have the Stones money to plan our survival and subsequent progression in the division above.
2 questions from me. 1) Is there a sell-on clause 2) Is the fee "undisclosed" We can move on. Good luck to the lad, I like him, even though he is being a tw@ towards Leanne in the current Corrie storyline.
Star and Mail seem to reckon it's £2m. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...continue-rebuff-Chelsea-England-defender.html http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/459015/Mason-Holgate-medical-Manchester-United
£500k upfront according to this http://www.90min.com/posts/2452145-...ch-farm-for-talks-with-everton?utm_source=RSS
Re: £500k upfront according to this if thats holgates agent with him in those pics he looks more like a arrogant pimp!!!
So we've developed him from a young age and he wouldn't sign a contract extension like Stones for the benefit of the club. We should have left him in Donny, he could have had a career in hedgehog skinning.
Hope it works out for him, but can you imagine if his agent represented John Stones, with Everton turning down the bids from Chelsea? Most importantly, I hope the rest of our young players go the John Stones route and don't follow Holgate's example.
I don't know the ins and outs, which everyone else seems to. He's an 18yr old lad, who's been told he can move from Division 3 to the Premier League. I'm really not getting all the vitriol towards him. I've not heard a word come from him - have i missed summat? Unless there's summat i'm missing, i really do think a lot of people are being harsh on him. I kind of get not signing an extension to be honest. It ties him to the Club and could be a deterrent to the move. Why would he do that? He's probably following some dodgy advice from his agent and maybe his family. But hey. He's 18 and his getting his head turned by the bright lights of PL.
A few thoughts: Individuals that take just about any other career path have complete freedom of movement. A company can spend years training you, but you can, at any point, leave to join another company for more money/better opportunities. Not so in football, the club hold your licence and trade in people. This reminds me of something we used to do in the past, and I can't be the only one who thinks that. I can't understand how it is even legal. When an individual on a career path other than football finds a new position at a different company for more money/better opportunities they are not vilified for doing so. Quite the opposite in fact, it's often a cause for celebration. Meals are had with the family, good luck cards are bought. The majority of us using this forum will have experienced this. Mason Holgate is just 18 years old. He is trying to progress in his chosen profession by moving to a club that will pay him a higher salary and offer him better opportunities. His desire to do this is being blocked and he is being derided for wanting something that every single one of us want, but unlike Mason are free to do. Barnsley football club's only motivation in all this is to make as much money as possible from the sale of a person. Words cannot begin to express how low my opinion now is of some individuals at the club after the propaganda I have read about an 18 year old lad. A young lad who wanted to progress his career and make more money is now a figure of hate. If I was his dad there'd be a few people getting a crack.
It's a sad state of affairs, we barely got the chance to see him play, he'll probably get booed whenever he returns to Oakwell due to the way it's been handled and no one will know if it's a good deal or not for the club as the fee & possible sell on clause won't be revealed.
i agree 100%...i have said before, if someone offered me enough i'd model Wendy's new kit.....can't knock the lad for wanting to go at all. Some fans though (and some on here too) are deluded that they think all players should never want to leave bfc. Players are not fans, they are in it for the riches they could make and why not, we all go to work for money and most would jump ship at a chance of tripling our wages or possibly even more in this case. Why wouldn't he wanna go.....we arn't exactly pulling any trees up at Jokewell currently are we! hth
