One of newspapers says 500,000. If so that is ****. Players going for 10s of millions we get half. Weak minded fools
Established internationals go for ten's of millions. Young lads with 20 odd games at League 1 level with a year left on their contract dont.
How much do you think he's worth? Take into consideration that he's only got 11 months on his contract and could leave on a free...
I'd take £500k plus add ons right now if I'm honest. This transfer saga has gone on for far too long now and it needs to be brought to an end.
It's got to the stage nar that I hope he fecks off! Not laikin for us and we're still paying him! Get shut, few quid, good add ons, job done! Move on
Based on what? Personally, I think for a young inexperienced player who's only got football games under his belt from a hat full of league one games, 500k and a sell on clause in his contract isn't bad work. Especially with the current situation of his contract expiring in 11 months time... Maybe I'm not as realistic as you though Bomber, forgive me if I'm being naive.
I don't think that we will benefit from add ons. I believe that they will be there, but I do not think that he is good enough, not a John Stones.
Exactly. On every level. So flog him for £1m. If bournmouth then sell him next year to a champ team for £2m then we'll at least get another couple of hundred £k for him. He is absolutely not in the same stratosphere as Stones. He looked like a decent league 1 player.
There are important distinctions between this and the Stones deal. I've been very critical of how we handled it. Stones had plenty of time left on his contract, numerous clubs were interested, he clearly had the physical and technical ability to make it at the top level. Also, I don't know the ins and outs of the negotiations but I suspect had we dug our heels in, Stones would have knuckled down, played on for us and moved at the end of the season. Holgate has less than one year left on his contract and we'd lose him for a derisory tribunal figure (or for nowt if he moved abroad) There are still questions over his physical development and seemingly now his temperament (acting like a ****) The 'big' clubs have taken a look and don't fancy him and by digging our heels in we'd only end up causing further upset amongst the players and have a player taking wages and doing nowt. I think our hands are tied with this one. I'd prefer to get a million as I think he has the potential to be worth more. However, if it's £500k and a sell on fee and we move on, then I can cope with that.
Agreed. It's been dragging on and it has affected other things - the atmosphere amongst fans, and our ability to bring in other players. I like and rate Holgate, but no player is bigger than the club. It was an untenable situation. Move on. Delighted Bree is back.
He's definitely not John Stones, nowhere near, but we may get add ons linked to appearances for the club he signs for.
I thought Stones signed a new deal after he'd broken into the first team, after he'd started to attract attention.
