if you like homemade scones. The three ingredient recipe. 400g of self raising flour. 175ml double cream. 175ml fizzy lemonade. Mix the whole lot together into a dough, knead on a floured surface, flatten to about an inch, cut to size as required, bung in oven 200 degrees for 15 minutes. Voila, wonderful light fluffy scones. And yes, it works !
You've got flour? I'd keep that quiet. Current exchange rate is one cup of flour for 12 gallons of Brent Crude on commodity markets.
Never knew the ingredients of scones. So basically it's flour, cream, sugar, water and a dash of lemon.
Nothing like my Grandma's recipe for scones which I suddenly have the urge to make - if only I had flour marg and lard 3 cups of SR flour (12oz) 1 cup of sugar (4oz) 4 oz of Margarine 1 knob of lard (size of a walnut) 2 large eggs (beaten) enough currants - I find about 3 oz is about right Just mix together shape into scones and cook at 200C (180 Fan ) until done - around 12-14 mins
Only thing we've got from those ingredients is a cup of sugar and margarine. Flour is like gold dust. Will come back to this recipe once we can get hold of the magic ingredient.
Me too - still have part of one bag but not going to blow it all on a batch of scones until I can get some more. I dont think the lard is so critical but the flour is rather fundamental.
We bought a 6 kg sack of strong white flour from our local windmill. (yes I know, a bit George Spicer-ish). Have made loaves and bread buns. Very nice flavour too. A windmill, by the way, is one of those big things with four arms that wave around in the wind and grind that corn stuff. It's like the History Channel or Discovery on here, it's so educational.
Never having made a scone in my life, but eating the many variants offered by Mrs tonjy, I have a message for you, delivered by my wife after tasting a scone made by my own fair hands following your recipe. It was along the lines of “You can f**k right off!” I think she’s a touch bitter. Ta for recipe.
I'm not quite sure what your reply infers... is she saying they are awful or the opposite? If you're a scone purist then they are probably ok but there's room for improvement by adding raisins and cherries.
I love it !!! We men should stick together. We can make better scones than our wives. They'll have been using a recipe handed down the generations that takes hours to make. Then we come along doing them in half an hour. Unforgivable. We should be hammering nails and fiddling with car engines or sitting in our sheds. We're not built for flour and buns.
