In the next week im going to do something that will make me nervous. Its happened before and it did then.

Ive been advised to take a herbal tablet called calms or kalms.
Anyone taken these tablets before? And if so for how long.

Are we allowed to ask what you're going to do? If it's your driving test then I wouldn't take anything!

Just take a big gulp and get on with it, whatever it is.

I think I took them for a couple of days before but like I said they were worse than useless. To be honest besides from paracetemol I never take pills so I can't really compare them to anything but my advice is don't waste your money.

From a sport and exercise science point of view, i would recommend going for a run.

Before the event (whatever you are getting nervous about!) you will experience anxiety. Adrenaline and cortisol (as well as quite a bit of fat) will be released into your bloodstream and your body is preparing you to 'fight or flight' e.g. anticipation to run away from a lion. Of course we have grown out of hunting and usually get stressed and then don't exercise (run away from the lion), so it does more harm than good now.

Exercise will not only burn away these stress hormones and the fat (energy for 'fight or flight') released, making you feel more relaxed, but your body will also produce endorphins which will help boost your overall mood. Should make you more focused/improve concentration levels too.

About 30-45 mins medium intensity and try and sprint finish at the end.

ex-girlfriend used to use this for her general anxiety disorder, and she studied neuropsychology/worked for the NHS (so was fairly clued up on anxiety/mental health etc)

Personally, i think they work more psychologically (placebo effect). Like i say, you are best going for a run to get a physiological benefit.

If you feel you need to calm down Phil, it would be a good idea to identify just what winds you up in the first place. Head it off at the pass, as they say.

People usually turn to herbal remedies when clinical diagnosis and medication has failed. Most of us live with some kind of psychosis, so I wouldn't be afraid to get some serious medical advice if you think you need it.
