I was just checking the BBC website to see what games were on tonight. Now I noticed there were a few in the EFL cup which I assume is Old School League Cup. Then I also noticed an EFL Trophy with Man C, Man U and Spurs all playing tonight. What is this EFL Trophy?
So is it the old Johnson’s Paint trophy? If so why are the Manchester clubs involved? I thought that was for non prem clubs
EFL obviously thought that trophy competition had peaked when we won it, so completely destroyed it the following season.
I can't wait for an academy to beat a league 1 or 2 team in the final or there be two academy teams reach the final. It's remaining credibility will be lost completely and it will go back to it's original format or be scrapped.
Basically a cup for lower league teams to win as they have little to no chance of winning the FA Cup or the League Cup. Except that's not fair on poor little old Champions League qualified sides. So fk you small clubs, we must give Premier League giants a chance to win it with all their under 21s teams. (Drip the sarcasm out of my post and it's blank. )
I liked the old JPT format, even before we won the trophy. Since they introduced the Prem U21 teams, I haven't taken any interest at all.
They opened the trophy (previously only for league 1 and league 2 clubs) to PL "development" teams a few seasons back. I'm not sure if Championship clubs can enter a development team.
I enjoyed it because our fortunes had upturned in the league and it went from being all our season was about to a bonus. I didn't take it seriously at all and only went because Laura had never been to London before. I remember coming back on the train from St Pancras thinking I hope we make the Play-Offs and win here (Wembley) again.
