Been in hospital for the day, it was supposed to be next Thursday but the hospital rang to ask if I could get in for 9am today. The iron infusion wasn't as bad as I thought it would be as I'm used to having cannula's in for drips and frequent bloods/medications during stays in hospital. The worst part was having to keep having my blood pressure checked (I hate it when the cuff tightens up and always have done) every 5 minutes for the first 15 minute test dose and then every 15 minutes for the rest of the dosage.. Fortunately I didn't have any major reactions to the treatment, I got a headache , felt a little dizzy and blood pressure and heart rate kept going up and down but at least I didn't go into an Anaphylactic Shock - rare but a known side effect especially if you're asthmatic like me. Hopefully this iron will help me produce more red blood cells. I should feel a difference in a few days, or so I've been told. My arm is sore, I'm a little tired but fine.
Just Got Back... ...is the normal subject line for posts like this! Glad to hear you've survived your ordeal and let's all hope the effects kick in soon. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Good to hear it went ok! Hope it is a success in the red blood cell department! Kim always looked so much better when they boosted her iron and felt better too! (And it was better to get it done that way than catching her eating raw liver out of the fridge!!!)
You are one brave girl The Bronte/Haworth Trip and guided tour is still on as far as I'm concerned
Keep well xxx

Excellent Hopefully you are happily sleeping at the moment but hope you start to feel better in the morning
Great news Laura.
Glad it wasn't too bad for you.
Those cannula's drove me up the wall when I was in BDGH. I had to have a gram of antibiotic every 6 hours for 23 days.
In the last couple of day's my body started to reject them so they put me on tablets for another two months.
(casualty)

Ok, I'll remember that. Was told it could take a few days before I start feeling "normal" whatever normal is! I need a iron rich curry
Urgh, raw liver don't even like the stuff when it's cooked. Thanks for the good wishes, I'm sure I'll be back on form soon.
Morning Trouble I made a liver concoption in Germany a few weeks ago - no recipe just got some liver and piled loads of Indian spices in - tasted fantastic, wish I can remember what I put in it I'll have a word with the chef in the Dil Raj and ask him to put "Liver Tikka Laura" on the menu.
Presumably that IRN BRU rubbish has a high iron content The ads claim its made from girders so it should be iron rich or should the ASA be investigating
I don't consider myself as brave especially when I see and hear what others have to put up with. If anything going in and out of hospital has taught me to be more determined and try not to complain as there are many people, much younger than me, who are brave as they battle much worse illnesses. I am looking forward to our trip when the weather picks up. Thank you for offering to be our guide.
May take a few days to feel better apparently. Still it's half-term so I can stay in bed if I want to.
Stumbled headlong into the well-laid trap! If tha gus in 't Thornely Arms in Dodeth tha's one paid on!
I find the worst thing is when they use the water to flush the cannula. Hope you're on the mend now as well.
RE: Stumbled headlong into the well-laid trap! Works every time. Nice one. I'll swing by in the spring some time.
Don't think dad would let me near his beer! Thought guinness had a bit of a bitter taste - could be the iron. I was told yesterday that I may get a metallic taste as apparently your tongue reacts to the iron being given and thinks you are tasting metal. Thankfully I didn't.
