Has anyone on here ever visited, lived or worked there ? What are your experiences ? Thinking of applying for a job there.

My uncle did

He was posted in the navy over there - he loved it. Don't know what it's like since it changed hands

My brother lives ther - works for Cathay Pacific - so visit him regularly. Fantastic place, wonderful culture & atmosphere. Food is to die for - biggest and best range of restaurants anywhere in the world, and not just Chinese! Cities so loud, busy, vibrant but fabulous wild countryside a 20 minute bus ride away. Great outlying islands - very scenic & peaceful. Housing really expensive, but generally salary to match - most people rent. Really hot (& mor importantly very, very humid) in summer months. One thing I can never get used to is no summer/winter change in daylight. Give a take a few minutes, it gets light at 6:00am and dark at 6:00pm all year round!

I was born there ...

Dad in the Navy.

Sadly, I don't have any memories of it as my Dad was posted back to Portsmouth shortly after I was born. I do know that my sister and mum absolutely loved it. of all the places she followed my Dad my mum said that Hong Kong was the only one outside of Barnsley that she would ever have stayed at.

One of my mates from my Leeds University Days lives there.
He loves the place. It's great if you like a very lively 24hr City, but it is a bit over crowded.
He married a Chinese girl and is the owner of a Gold Prospecting Company.
I can't get any money out of him for the Reds though as he's a Southampton supporter.

I spent a year working there from 1993-94. I have also been out about 16 times since 1986 to the Hong Kong Sevens, the last time being the Sevens World Cup in 2005. I love the place. Dirty; smelly; hectic, etc, but if you can see past this then you'll have a ball. Visiting is expensive, but if you work there, the tax is only about 15% and there is a pretty high earnings limit before this kicks in, so it balances out. Go for it!
