Is there any point to them? Do they serve any useful purpose? Just seen that Graham Potter, Lucy Bronze and Scary Spice have all received them recently. They've not passed any exams to get the awards so is there any actual benefit to the recipients or to the university awarding them?

Not sure as to their worth but I think Scary Spice did some study towards hers as she didn't want to just be handed the award.

I think its a bit of an ego trip for the UNI to say they have so and so as one of theirs. Not sure what it does for the celeb though...

I mean technically you get your doctorate for contributing to your field of knowledge - there's no reason for any exams to be involved at all.

As I understand it, it's only fairly recently that it's been commoditised as just another kind of advanced degree. If you've done enough then why not.

This isn't a judgement on whether or not any of those people should have been awarded one!

Great day for graduate and family alike, and the culmination of several years of hard work, making new friends and memories that stay with you for life.

Not sure a honorary degree can ever come close
