And they did deserve a win on balance. But there's no doubt this group of lads have a huuuuuuuge learning curve ahead of them. It's hard to read much into pre-season, and games like this. This was my first glimpse of our new team, and I am looking forward to watching them develop. But on a first showing, I've got to admit I'm nervous that we could take some right pastings in the coming weeks. Davies - couple of great stops. Defence - all over the shop, especially from set pieces. Pinnock looks like a beast, but won very little in the air and looked suspect positionally. It's likely he needs some time to bed in. Midfield - I liked the look of Williams. Hammill must start every game in the next few weeks, if only to talk the others through it. Moncur had some tidy passages of play, but wasn't involved enough. Ugbo looks like he has the raw materials to be an excellent forward. Hopefully as the team get used to one another, we'll see more from him. It's hard not to watch that side and conclude that they don't need 2-3 more experienced lads to help them out, as much as a) I know experience doesn't solve everything and b) I know it isn't 'the plan.' The difference between the inexperienced lads last season and the inexperienced lads this season is that they're a bunch of strangers, and it's obvious from a mile off. Super finish from Hedges to win the game. As a glass half full kinda fella, I'll keep confidence that Hecky and the team can add the extra bodies we need, and that they've got the right lads to work with and develop. We might need an extra dose of patience this time round though.
