No energy, too many basic errors, made it too easy for Doncaster and never kept the ball like we normally do. But for those getting the monk on at Wilson (I've not read this board yet but I know it's happening) these were the alternatives I saw: Hemmings for Cole Treacy for Trotta Abbott for Bailey That means we're still playing players our of position but these are unfit and I'm a poor run of a form. All the lads being slated 10 days ago were on the back on 3 successive wins. Calm the f.ck down. Poor performance, point gained with a completely patched up team missing captain, left back & top scorer. That'll do.
And then played with 4 central midfielders? My point is that the 'solution' everyone is quoting would then cause us other problems which is why I can see why we've not changed it. A change doesn't mean it'd be better.
Change isn't always for the better, but we were desperately, desperately short in midfield last night, and have been for a few games recently. Our full backs get no support, Bailey is asked to be the centre point of a midfield three but isn't strong enough or good enough with so fewer bodies around him, and our defence are expected to step up and be playmakers. Berry has played wide right numerous times this season, with varying degrees of success, but it wouldn't have been a position alien to him. Same goes for Hourihane on the left. Treacy was awful when he came on, however his showings at Chesterfield and versus Scunny could have warranted a start. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. We had other options that could have stopped Donny dominating the way they did, but we opted for none of them. They came to Oakwell and dictated the midfield and the play, and we failed to force their keeper in to a save for 90 minutes. We were masters of our own downfall, but at the same time came away with a point. We'll beat Chester though, and then draw the scum at home.
Hourihane and Berry could feasibly play the wider roles, they have before. We're asking central strikers to play out of position so it's the same thing.
Hill and Flitcroft have left the club in a right state. what we gunna do? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
You've just made my point - we're getting the monk on about a system because it means players are playing out of position. The system everyone is saying we should play is doing just that.
I'm not clever enough to analyse systems. That's what the manager's paid for. I'm getting munk on cos am sick of watching us be w.ank. And we were proper dogger last night. Yet another 'worst performance of the season'
11 days ago we'd won 3 on the bounce and we were f.cking ace. This has been by far my favourite season.
That's the problem this season. It's just like tossing a coin. No different to 3 heads and 2 tails. What I want to see is some predictability, form and consistency. Might hev a little bet on the Chester game. Al have a quick toss to predict the outcome on setdi. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
People are getting the monk on because the system we seem insistent on playing plays players out of position and leaves us massively exposed in midfield. If this system meant we were creating masses of chances due to having three strikers on the pitch then there'd probably be less of an issue, but we look awful going forward at the minute. The system being suggested would still have players out of position, but would at least give us a chance to win the battle in midfield. Players have been played out of position all season, that's nothing new, but the 4-3-3 option isn't working. Even when we beat Colchester it was far from a classic display.
You won't see that from a team that includes the players we had last night - inexperienced, young, new to this level the vast majority. It's to be expected. We'll have a few more like last night, we'll have a few more like Gillingham/Bradford/Sheffield United too.
I think the obvious move at half time was to get either Digby or Abbott in the middle with Bailey because we were getting over run. Not ideal because neither have much experience but it was the right move to make
Aye, but in a system that would give us a lot more strength across the middle of the park, and some much needed width in the mf.
But when central players play out wide they don't provide that width. They drift in, just like Berry & Hourihane have done when played out there. The biggest problem last night was our full backs - if we'd have had Dudgeon for example I think we'd have looked much more comfortable and offered a lot more out wide
