Fit-again Geoff Horsfield returns to his home town on Saturday desperate to kick-start Leeds United's season.

The striker was born and raised in Barnsley and, after making his return from a hamstring injury at Preston in midweek, big Geoff is ready to ruffle a few feathers at Oakwell on Saturday.

"I trained last week with the physios and came on at Preston," he explained. "It was disappointing. We pulled a goal back, but they got another and killed the game off. I got a bit of fitness back by coming on and I'm raring to go for Saturday now.

"I am Barnsley born and bred, but I've not got too many connections there. I never supported them and have never really followed them.

"I know things have changed a bit there and Andy Ritchie has done a fantastic job getting them promoted, but I want to go there and show that we can beat them.

"They'll look at us and what we've conceded, but they've conceded as well so it could be a high scoring game. Hopefully we will keep a clean sheet and get some at the other end.

"I've played in a few derbies and we have to show passion and desire. If we show we've got fighting spirit and get the passion going there's no reason why we can't get the result."

Boss Dennis Wise, pictured with assistant manager Gus Poyet, said after Tuesday's defeat at Preston that the second half introduction of Geoff and Robbie Blake were two of the positives to come out of the night.

"The gaffer will know me as a player and know I give 100 per cent when I pull the shirt on," said Geoff.

"I might not always have the best game in the world, but I give my all and hopefully the defenders will know they have been in a game.

"The gaffer has been more strict and he's told us a few home truths that we've not been good enough and we've not shown enough passion.

"Every time you play you should give 110 per cent and that's not always happened. Thet gaffer is inistilling that into people and we're working hard.

"If you don't work hard and are lazy in training that spills into games. The variety now is different and that helps. They've brought in fun, but it's hard work. There's a personal programme to follow - it's not picking on players - it's what we've got to do.

"We need to show balls, passion and desire. They are three great words that epitomise Dennis Wise. He's started drilling that into people and he will do it for the next six or seven months.

"We don't want to lose - no one goes out to lose - but we've got to ask questions to ourselves and 'have we done enough?' The answer is no. And we have to improve."
