'Enthusiastic' is one thing but saying "(We) are winning and coming to the end" with 1250m of a 2000m race still to go is a little optimistic to say the least. In the mens 4's he was saying we were "heading for gold" and "leading the way home" when we had not even reached the halfway point.
Measured tones and a sense of realism would be better for 'plebs' like me rather than inducing false hope and (unjustified) disappointment when the opposition overhaul us in the last 250m and we ONLY!! win a bronze medal !!

Plankton Pete said it for me "Once a cox, always a ....."

    Additional point...

Much criticism of the standard of some of the commentary but Matt Baker has been a revelation. Incredibly knowledgeable on the Gymnastics although I was unaware he had been involved in the sport (dont know at what level) in a former 'life'

Ah didnt see that one - had been surreptitiously keeping an eye on the races on iplayer when the boss called me for a meeting just as our pairs were about to go and got back as the men had only 250m to go and were struggling. Watched the girls gold on the rewind feature (though already knew they had won) but didnt bother going back for the first 80% of the mens race
