Last season they had about 30 games and won 3. They haven't won a single competitive home game since the first team were relegated in 2014. After losing to a side lower than Aquaforce in pre-season they have started this season off with a 3-1 home defeat and a 3-0 away defeat.

Of course the problem is players like Bree and Smith are just bypassing straight to the first team.

I'm sure Ben said he wanted a better U21s side this season ^_^

I know can't compare but as a kid I loved watching the reserves. Young lands but always half a dozen first teamers. Around 1990 it was best reserve side in the land.

They should bring back proper, competitive reserve leagues, with prize money. Some players at Premiership clubs never kick a ball in anger, besides odd cup matches, and I don't include U21's as in anger.

couldnt give a rats arse if they never won a game.

as long as payers like Stones, Holgate, Bree etc make the grade at first team level thats all that matters. I know winning breeds winners but the U21 serve one purpose only , to provide players for the first team

there used to be 3 or 4 thousand in when we played man united or liver pool reserves as well

one of the funniest things ive seen at oakwell happened during a reserve game , Darren Foreman was laiking for up front, cant remember who against and this lad stood on the west stand lower had been giving him stick all game..... eventually Darren had had enough of it all and came walking over pulling his shirt off , shouting " you come and f*****G play then" the lad dishing out the abuse went strangely quiet, im sure Foreman was nearly over the barrier!

There were some reight old loons at reserve games back then, there was an old fella who used to stand in the west near the away end , he used to grip both hands on the crush barrier that tight his knuckles went white and get that worked up his body would be bending all over the shop it was like watching the incredible hulk ...******* crackers. The man utd games think we hammered em two seasons on the trot , in the 6 .1 result I'm sure Ian banks got a hattrick, sithi.
