apparently................. it's possible for someone to hijack your address-Farnham -I think-explained it to me a while back
That's nothing unusual It's very easy to change the name of the sender and the e-mail address so that it looks like the sender is someone else. So it doesn't mean that your account is hacked, but if you're worried about that, just change your password. I've started getting spam mail from myself on Gmail too, but there's a useful feature where I can check the recent activity on my account, and I know that it has only been accessed from my ip, so I've got nothing to worry about.
Well, over the last few days I've offered myself more Viagra than you can shake a stick at & offered myself so many "enhancements" that if I accepted them, I'd be able to reach the moon!
RE: By the way Alright, I don't know what it's all about then. I started getting V|agr4 and C|aLiS spam from myself a couple of days ago as well...
So How does it work? I don't remember reading it, possibly because I didn't think it relevant at the time.
http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=123119&mid=815537#M815537 Basically if you are using a mailserver you tell it the email address you are sending from - most (but not all) commercial servers will only allow emails in their domain - so for example if you are on tiscali - like me you can set your email from box as ronnie.glavin@tiscali.co.uk and thats who emails will appear to have come from. What it wont let you do is use ronnie.glavin@bt.co.uk There are many mailsevers that dont have that restriction though I use one sometimes when travelling that has that feature Your spammers have either setup - or more likely hijacked a mailserver where they put the same name in the to and the from field thats all
