Owen's injury problems this season limited him to just three appearances in all competitions and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson informed him this week that he will not be offered a new deal. At 32, Owen still feels he has plenty to offer and after taking a break over the summer, he will be working hard to find a new club - but it will not be in the second tier. "I would like to play another couple of years and play more regular," Owen told Sky Sports News. "I'm only 32, looking at the likes of Scholesy and Giggsy, it fills you with confidence that you can play on. I am reasonably young and feel I can still play on. My body still feels good even though I've had a few injuries. I don't wake up with any aches. "At 32, I owe it to myself to have two or three years and play a bit more for somebody else." When asked if he would drop down the divisions, Owen said: "I don't think the Championship would be an option. I feel I can certainly do a job. If you look at my record when I played for Manchester United, most of it was in the Carling Cup, I scored virtually every time I played so I don't think I've lost the ability to score goals or play at a high level. "I certainly feel I can play in the top level. We will wait to see where that is. If it's not in the Premier League I may look further afield, but I don't think I will be going into the Championship." © ESPN EMEA Ltd FeedbackPrint Read more at http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/151253.html#CLRty2BQ83S3Lqfr.99
Still has his horses, property and endorsements, I'd imagine. Plus the interest on what money he has... I reckon he's still pulling in more in a week than I make in a year. That said, I could see him joining a QPR type club, lower/mid-table money, especially once the window shuts and non-contracted players are all that you can sign.
Re: Three words, "Shop Window"... 3 things on this thread: 1. We don't need a striker. 2. Owen is minted, he probably couldn't be bothered for the relative pittance we would pay. 3. His contract at Man U was pay as you play deal, he had a basic salary (rumoured to be c£30k a week), but the rest was on appearing/performance. Still a good wage but he signed a fair deal in today's football climate. He was offered a lot more money to play elsewhere but wanted to work under Ferguson for the learning aspect, as he does fancy being a manager. All according to Owen.
