So Hecky says,"Between the boxes, it's fine, with lots of good stuff but there's a big deficiency at the minute to attack the ball in the box." The stats tell the tale, shots 19 (reds) plays 10 (Reading) ,on target 7 (Reds) plays 5 (Reading) ,possession virtually 50/50, so where does the goal deficit issue lie? Lots of shots ,are they from forwards or are the forwards just too poor? or are they simply not being served? It appears from today's posts that there seems to be genuine improvement, not least Ethan Pinnock has added some solidity to the defence from which things can be built. How do the Reds move forward from this point?
For me, the problem is the central two. If we could get that right, it would allow Hammill, Barnes, Isgrove, or whoever plays wide, to play with more freedom, knowing that the centre is taken care of. At the moment, it's not right. Gardner did better today. Williams has been ok, but too many mistakes / too erratic. Could really do with a Matty James / Josh Scowen replacement we could trust. And we definitely need at least one if not two more strikers, willing to throw themselves about / take a chance. I honestly don't think we're a bad side, but the blend isn't allowing our best players to perform.
I am enjoying the positivity of most of the posts following the game today and most fans appear to be coming to the same conclusions. With luck the coaching side have long since arrived at the same place and are making very strong representations to the new ownership to back the plan.
