I have been monitoring the gates for this seasan, and so far our avergae home gate is 10,537. However, when we play away the average gate is 19,060. That's a huge difference when it comes to the money available for players and wages, plus we don't have a huge benefactor in the background. Cryne has kept us afloat, but I mean a multi-million pound injection on cash.

ino myself and my family can't go any more because of prices, its just too expensive now, if we lowered the prices abit to get in more people would go, like the leicester game last year, the prices were low and there was people in the 2nd half of the west stand!

Get In A Couple Of Billionaires

If QPR can, we must be able to.

did you read shepherds programme notes?

He said that lowering prices doesnt cause an increase in attendance high enough to make any extra money. I presume he was ignoring the leicester match and using the 15 quid match from the other week where we didnt advertise and so didnt get many extra fans

People say that, I don't think it's that dear really!! A lot of other teams charge more and we have had the same prices for a couple of years now!!

If we make it cheaper it might be just as hard to buy players/make money!! Would loads more people come if it was £5 cheaper say? Or would double the people come every week if £10 and £5. I would love to see it happen though :)

Attendances are going to have a major bearing on the players and wages we are going to afford, if we continue to average aronund 10,000 then SD is going to have to shop around for bargains. Its a real shame because if we could average somewhere near 15,000 then it would make a big difference.

Everyone should really try bringing friends/family members/neighbour's along to as many games as possible!! Really nag them, if everyone brought one it would be fantastic!!

The club have got to try and do something soon though as these attendances can't last, it's awful sitting in a stadium less than half full nearly every game!!

and that's the thing, what have the club done to try to get people back? It's ok saying that performances on the pitch should do that but in reality they wont, not on their own because we can play like brazil every week but if nobody outside the ground finds out about it then it isn't going to tempt anyone back.

But we have had bigger crowds latley, so out of those 6000 surly some of them could come back!! The extra 13000 at Cardiff can't come much either!!

    totally agree, sir.... but

whilst,YES, we are playing good and attractive football..we lack consistency. I disagree with Gordon in his statement that lowering the prices would not get more in...we are not talking half price here maybe just a couple of quid, £17:50 instead of £20 on the Ponty for instance...not a kings ransom.... and maybe the old west stand lower near the tunnel at a big discount for school parties maybe...it would all help. But many nowadays are looking to other ways of entertainment ...Golf for example JJB do a starter set for £150 or thereabouts then you can get a round on many courses for £10 - 15 and thats for around 3 - 4 hours to go round. the leisure industry is very competative these days.

The game was well advertised by the trust posters were put up across the borough. The game was probably better advertised than the majority of games. last year the prices were reduced for three games only the leicester game achieved a significant increase in gate probably due in part to the importance of it.

I think you'll find it has mate.

The make-up of this league has changed beyond all recognition in the last few years - there are more genuinely 'big' clubs (Wolves, WBA), more 'nouveau riche' clubs fat on Premiership dosh (Watford, Charlton, Blunts), and more clubs bloated by injections of serious money (QPR, Leicester, Hull).

We're gonna have to run faster every year just to stand still.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

You pay wages that you can afford and buy players you can afford, or you do special offers and targeted, consistent marketing to get people back into the stands. Preferably, you do both. Standard business practice.

What you don't do is presume eternal customer loyalty and expect them to pay ever higher prices for your product, especially when there are cheaper and/or better alternatives.

it wasn't well advertised at all. It was very poorly advertised. You're right, the supporters trust did do a good job for what is essentially a bunch of amateurs (no offence intended) but it was all very last minute with calls for people to put posters up 2 days before the match.

It wasn't enough to create much interest by any stretch of the imagination and that can only be blamed on the club

You say "it's awful sitting in a stadium half full evey game". This is nothing new to BFC, in fact, it's the norm for BFC. We have averaged similar figures at this level for years - give or take a couple of seasons surrounding our successful era, 10,000 is pretty much tops i'm afraid for Barnsley FC. There will be exceptions of course when we have a little success, but no matter what, 10,000 ish, is all we are going to attract to this club on a regular basis.
