Go above his head and make a formal written complaint about him bullying you.

sounds to me like he is a spineless bully, get the lovely person on his own away from work and ask him what his problem is,chances are that he will sh*t himself and probably leave you alone, but what ever you do dont give him a crack.

    Tell him........

.. to get someone in who's better at your job than you.

Wait until he does it again and then hit him with.... The worst kind of boss is the
boss that embarasses his staff in front of their employees. You just did it and your ability as a Supervisor/Manager (what his tiltle is) must be called in question. Its common knowledge in the employee employer relations and undermines your own ability to earn respect from anybody.

Then watch him look like a fish out of water. He cant sack you for telling the truth and if he does you got a 'cast iron' case.

    Evidence.

Keep a record with dates/times, what was said, witnesses, etc. It would be even better if it was written or email, but recordings of him in action (have you a phone that records voice?) is all evidence that can be used against him.

You could also approach HR for advice about the grievence procedure. If its a decent sized company then HR would have to be involved in any complaint.

A colleague of mine helped to get a bullying manager sacked after he sent an email slagging him off (undeserved) to the entire company....

    My view

Sit down and make a very careful note of what he has done to upset you over the last x weeks / months. Try and remember dates, and detail what exactly has happened, what was said etc, and why it was unacceptable.

Go and see him in private.

Take the approach - "You have caused me to be extremely upset / hurt / angry - and these are the reasons why.

Briefly cover the main incidents and reasons - eg On 12 December, in front of A, B and C, you said to me xxxxxxxxxxx. This was hurtful and unacceptable etc, and why.

    Wait for his response.

Your next action will depend on his response, but you could,

    - Offer to document it all in writing and send him an email, copying the boss in as well,

    - Go see the boss and hand it to him personally,

    - Point out that his behaviour is unacceptable, as well as illegal, and that he could get into serious trouble, as I think could the company if it defaults on its responsibilities of addressing the situation satisfactorily.

    Are you in a Union?

If so see your shop steward.. and make enquiries about harassment procedures.

i think some people are getting a bit carried away with their responses mate

you can't go ton industrial tribunal and say "he's been undermining me" - it makes him a **** boss that's true but there are loads like that. you'd need to prove that he was discrimnating against you be it on the grounds of race/sex/sexual orientation etc and that it caused you to either quit your job or got you the sack.

as you are still employed you have 3 options
    1 - leave it
2 - mention it to the person in question. you can't just go down the legal route without giving them the opportunity to rectify the situation internally
3 - raise a grievance either formally or informally to that persons line manager

if options 2 and 3 are exhausted and you're still not happy that things have changed then you will need to find something that they are discriminating you about.

i assume you work for a small company? if you have to quit/get sacked your job is much harder if you want to successfully do them out of court than it would be if you worked for a company the size of HSBC for example. hsbc would need to prove YOU wrong, the law does not expect the same from much smaller companies (rightly so) as you can not expect them to have the same rigorous HR processes that a multinational would have due to the cost.

also, undermining employees does not constitute bullying the eyes of the law. it makes them a crap boss.

soz about the length of this post but having to know all about employment law for work its only fair that i let you know

    agree apart from

the illegal side. undermining isn't bullying in the eyes of the law. apart from that its excellent advice.

    Are you like me.....................unemployable ???

Take this from someone who has been threatend with the sack or actually been sacked at every job he has done

    2 options

    1) Leave - tell his director mate why you are leaving
    2) Face up to the Barsteward - this type usually back down

The first thing you really must do

Ask to talk to him in private and explain to him why what he is doing is such a problem. It may well work.

If it doesnt doesnt work you really have two choices - put up with it or leave
