Must admit to understanding why Reading are unhappy - I didnt remember anyone saying you are only offside if you touch the ball
Isn't it something to do with being active? Haven't seen the Hull goal, but you can be in an offside position provided you don't interfere with the ball or come back in to the active zone
I thought it was if you became active, no doubting McClean was active, he was chasing the ball and very nearly got to it.
As I always say If you're not 'active' you shouldn't be on the pitch. There's no judging where the ball's going to go sometimes, so for me if you're in an offside position, active or not, you're offside. We probably wouldn't have as many controversial decisions then.
Another massive problem in the game...officials being inconsistent in almost every decision they make and not just from game to game but also in the same game.
Re: As I always say You cant have that for 2 reasons 1. You get ridiculous cases where a goal is disallowed because somone is lying injured by the corner flag and most definitely not actively interfering with play 2. if a player runs to the goal line and crosses the ball - he almost certainly becomes offside the moment a player in the box heads it in I dont have a problem with the rule as I thought it was supposed to be implemented now ie as soon as you move towards the ball you become active so if you were in an offside position when it was played you were off - if you make no attempt to be involved in the game and are moving to be back in an onside position or standing still the game can continue . Thats not the interpretation used by the officials in the Reading game though
