There is limited internet here. Plus its usually too slow to download much more than the score. But today for some reason the gods are smiling and I can have a fix of BBS. Good to catch up on your views of the season so far. Still great being a REDS fan
I hope you're settling in well to your new life. Please keep us updated with your progress and keep in touch, old mate.
Near Kokopo East New Britain, Papua New Guinea Looks like my live sport is going to be rugby league, for a while. The local team the Gurias (meaning earthquake ((we had 4 of them last week)) are not bad.
Why did you go up there? I'm not sure you said. Without ever being up there, I gotta say that your choice of seachange is mystifying. They reckon that this latest generation has stopped eating people. But nobody really knows what happens in those highlands.
That's because you are in Australia and there is no love lost between the Auzzies and locals in either direction. They were the colonial power after all. Actually East New Britain is beautiful, low crime and very friendly. I am here, because I might just be able to make the world a better place. But its going to be a tough few years. T Yes, things here are very basic. But I am from Barnsley so don't mind a bit of rough.
Small point but nobody in australia thinks ill of PNG. Sounds like there may be a bit of the standard little brother syndrome going on. Fair play to you up there. My long-held stereotypes are around oppressive heat and humidity, malarial, jungle where everything bites, tribal wars and payback which are somewhat deadly, alchohol and home violence probs, thieving, absolutely no place for a woman - like rape and murder. Well, maybe it's improved. I do have relatives who were brought up there. Did you go up there on your own?
I am here with my wife. We spent some time in the West Indies in the 1990s and the picture you describe fits Trinidad more than here. But the Caribbean is not tared with the same reputation. Not saying its perfect mind. As you say the Highlands sound "a bit interesting" but my take on the highlanders is they are like northerns in the UK But its early days, so I could be very wrong
I'm glad you replied again. I thought that my post may have sounded derogatory about your new home. I was just giving my viewpoint which is not based on much knowlege. PM me if you wish to get my details. If anything goes T.Up for you then you could bolt down here (sydney) for a break. We may be on the same timezone and about a four hour plane ride. They reckon Jan/Feb can be hard to take up there. regs
Long way to Oakwell.... I suspect the weather's a bit warmer there. Hope the Internet holds out long enough for you to read this......
