Yeah people pay road tax to park on the road. So people can park outside your house when they want. If it was your drive then that would have been different. So as said completely ilegal.

    Not only road tax but

also parking permits £20 every year. Thought it was illegal. Cheers

Mrs Burgundy Red got abusive notes stuck to her car window for parking outside someone's house when we lived in England. Thinking back I don't know why we didn't inform the police as they were quite threatening about it.

Some people seem to think they own the road outside their house but from experience of living in a parking permit area (York) I can assure them they don't want to go down that route (for which you pay but which still doesn't guarantee parking in your own city let alone street).

That said, if it's a one-off then a polite "Delivery expected - please leave this space clear" notice against the kerb might be a reasonable compromise?

Guy in our street has gone so far as getting 'No Parking'

painted on the road outside of his house by contractors. He also puts notes on peoples windscreens if they park outside of the land he owns next door. It means nothing though, you can park where you want unless you are obstructing access.

It's just one more indicator of people

... taking the law into their own hands.

Yes - it's annoying when you want to park outside your house and you can't because other people are there. Yes it's annoying when you want to clean the car or unload shopping and you have to walk up the street.

But nobody owns the stretch in front of their house, and to warn people off is both intimidating and illegal.

That's fine, so long as you don't have friends to visit.
