How long does this Diwali thing last, then?

And does it explicitly require that I be woken up by fireworks just outside my window at 6 o'clock on a Sunday morning? Or is that just someone having a laugh? I need to know because I'd like to teach them a lesson about not playing with fireworks but I wouldn't want to offend anyone's religious beliefs, obviously.
