now we are cash rich, could the club get the ground full,to try and encourage fans back to oakwell, the atmosphere needs a big boost at home, plus if you was a season ticket holder would you be upset by this or think I would like to see ground full again
Been argued many times over the years this one but my thoughts on your post: 1. We are definitely NOT a cash rich club 2. Not sure we would be able to charge such a low amount even if the club were happy to 3. Season ticket holders would be f**ked off at this, £300-£400 to shell out in one go is a large amount for the majority, including myself. 4. No-one would buy season tickets next year if this was the case 5. If the football is sh*t, you'll still only get the hardcore and semi-hardcore coming. 6. Unlikely the fill the ground very often, even at such a low cost, too many people are out of the habit of coming to Oakwell - a lot will only make the effort for the big FA Cup games, I wonder how many so-called fans last game at Oakwell was the Chelsea FA Cup game in 2008? Friggin thousands, a lot of 'proper' fans who go to maybe a dozen or so games throughout the year had to settle for watching that one in the boozer.
thanks for reply, was meaning just the odd game to try and encourage folk back, we need the atmosphere to improve to help get us up
I don't think the OP means every game, just as a one-off. Season ticket holders get a good enough deal, to not begrudge those who can't get to as many games a few offers. I seem to remember it working very well against Leicester one season.
The odd game yeah, fair enough, they've tried it a few times though and it didn't have a significant impact on attendances - remember that Blackpool anniversary game? It was promoted to the hilt and there wasn't a significant increase in the attendance and I'm sure it was only something like a tenner in which is very rare for a league game.
And when we do put these offers on we play **** anyway, so it puts them extra "supporters" off even more! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Blackpool anniversary game was played on a lovely September day, £12.50 to get in. We got 14000. There's no point.
If we do nothing the club will die on its arse. People have been absolutely priced out of coming. It's beyond a joke. People got out of the habit of coming because it hot too expensive. If I were a young lad who couldn't afford a season ticket I wouldn't be able to afford to pay on the gate. I'd get out of the habit and stop. We need to address this pretty sharpish.
Didn't renew ST this year, haven't been to a match since Bobby's Testimonial. Considered going Bradford game but weather forecast is heavy rain. Fair weather supporter, combined with years of being under entertained. Going through a bit of a BFC trial separation at the moment. And I can't say I'm missing it either.
I agree with everything you have posted. I had a ST until end of 2013/14. I gave it up because I really hadn't enjoyed going to Oakwell for a few years prior. Last season I went to only four games and that was only because my friend ARK and his Dad went. It cost me £100 in total to watch very poor standard football. I'm afraid that it is a problem across all of football. My colleague who is a Wednesday ST holder was trying to convince me that his ST was very good value at 'ONLY' £20 per game. Until football decides on mass to restrict the outgoing on wages then there will not be any change until market forces prevail. That could be sooner than expected as the football population is ageing with no real uptake among younger people. Where I used to sit in ESL I was a young 'un and I'm 56. One bad flu epidemic and there'd be a lot of empty seats.
I believe the last time we made it £5 for a league game there were a significant number of people locked out as it was full. Leicester 2008.
That 14,000, or 14,134, was actually our highest home attendance of the 12/13 season, higher than Huddersfield, Wednesday and Leeds at home. It would have been not much above 8,000 if we hadn't done the £5 deal. The club should do a £5 or £10 entry 2 or 3 times a season.
Does it? We got an extra 5,000 or so for the Blackpool game, paying £12.50 each. Assuming the usual entry fee was £20 at the time we would have needed 3,000 extra at £20 to match the 5,000 at £12.50. We certainly wouldn't have got an extra 3,000 at £20 for Blackpool. On top of that the extras buy food, drink, programmes, car park fees, etc.
