653 last I read on here somwhere. I think the initial 500 went and then they ask for another 500 and have sold a couple of hundred of them with rest to go back sometime close of business tomorrow to be pay on the day.
ta mate, do you know how many their away end holds? I expected us to take 2000 if it was possible given the importance of the match.
Max away is 2000 - though normally 1200 according to the footballgroundguide Away fans are housed in the North Stand, which is now all seated after being a former terrace. Like most former terraces that have had seats bolted onto them, the leg room and height distance between each row is less than desirable. The large number of supporting pillars will probably also impede your view; although this does not make for a great experience at least the Stand is covered. Up to 2,000 away fans can be accommodated in the North Stand, although the initial allocation is 1,200. One good thing for away fans in the North Stand, is that comparatively few numbers of fans can really make some noise from it. On my last visit there was quite a good atmosphere and I experienced no problems around the ground. Refreshments within the away area are served from an 'Transport Cafe' type establishment, complete with tables and chairs. The usual range is available such as pies (£2), cheeseburgers (£2.30), hot dogs (£2) and chips (80p). Bear in mind though, that getting your drinks in one piece back to your seat can be quite a challenge. The front of the stand is below pitch level, with stairs leading up to each pitch access point where the stewards stand. Going up and down these flights of stairs, with a cup of coffee in each hand, can present a problem. A couple of groans though... the toilets were pretty grim to say the least and for the second time I have missed the start of a game at Roots Hall, because there has been only one turnstile open taking cash (there is another one open, but for tickets only - bought from a separate booth!). Inevitably, one operator can't cope with the queue, so my advice is to head for the ground a bit earlier than normal.

RE: Max away is 2000 - though normally 1200 According to Rob Knowles away day notes in the Birmingham programme it says pies are not available
My mate went down this morning to get some tickets, she sed we had sold the initial 1500, but told him to wait 15 mins bcoz they were waiting on some more coming thru, then we recieved anutha 1000!!!
I went to Southend last year in the league.. As you walk in you go up some stairs on your right, then on your left is like a little cafe type thing with tables and chairs. I got a pie last year so..
Southend in '95......... I think we needed a win and someone had to lose/draw on the last day of the season. We lost 3-1 and there was about 1,500 reds fans down for that one. Back in the mid to late 70's i think Southend normally played on Friday nights? And didn't we get Alan Little from then for about 5 grand?
RE: Southend in '95......... Went to that game too mate..................quite a warm day as I remember but what a let down. I seem to think Southend may have been relegated at the time or at least had nothing to play for. They murdered us although I think we had to win by 3 clear goals and hope that Middlesbro (maybe ?) lost - so it was always going to be a big ask. Regardelss the other team whoever they were didnt lose so it was all acedemic. I seem to remember they had what looked like an allotment in one corner of the ground.......which has now been cemeted over. It's a nice quaint little ground that generates a decent atmosphere (hope that does not sound patronising)...............................we also got Dreary Derek from Southend too - hey, but what a signing!
RE: Southend in '95......... That's right... it was very warm indeed. And we didn't put up much of a performance. Redfearn scored for us for a change (arf!). I think that year Middlesbrough won the league but i can't recall who had to lose/draw for us to pip them. Good turnout from Tarn, considering, though. I've been three times to Roots Hall and can remember that big open end they used to have - never seen us win there and so am wrestling with mi conscience about going.
RE: Southend in '95......... Get yer sen off lad! - Last year I drove down there - on my own! - however, a cracking day- good match 1-1 draw. Parked up at the nearby train station and got talking to A Southend fan who happened to be going to the game on his own as well because his mate couldn't make it - but he had his mates spare ticket. He gave it to me, I got in for nowt, bought him a pint at half time and had great chat and banter about footy - it restored a lot of my faith in football fans. Couldnt imagine a Leeds fan been so accomodating in that situation (would probably have knifed me!)....got a little bit of a soft spot now for the Shrimpers though of course that's all out of the window on Saturday.
RE: Southend in '95......... Sod it! If i get paid my arrears off a client i'm having the weekend off then. I'm only about 80 minutes away as well.
RE: Southend in '95......... Top man....I hope it turns out like we are all praying it does but unlike Southend 95 all will not be lost even if the result does not go our way.................a small crumb of comfort for me would be that it might just keep SUFC up at the expense of Leeds scum.
RE: Southend in '95......... The only light i have shining from this season is that, even if we do bite the bullet (and i'm not being defeatist). then i hope those horrible big-headed Barstewards from Bellend Road sink into the 'lower regions'..... And to top it all; another reason is that that Dennis Wise is a right big-headed ****!!
RE: Southend in '95......... ............and he looks like Nooky Bear! I live in Leeds and boy, all the stereotypes you hear about them being arrogant, aggressive etc are spot on.
Nooky Bear..... You'd look like that with a Hulk Hogan (fatter version) lookalike having his hand up your arse lad.
